I have pictures to back up what i am saying. If you want any documentation I have it all since last July when i started using the other methods to patch ps3s. It is well over 100. Right now at my house i have 20 ps3s and i could send you a picture of them. They are all loaded will cfw that i installed after patching it with either the (Admin Edit: Site dangerous Removed) site or the Russian site.
I own a lot of ps3s, plus have sold a lot more than i own, and only risked my own hardware when doing the mods and thankfully haven't had a single problem. Also I've done every model with the alternative methods for patching. If anyone needs help with testing here i would be happy to help with the amount of ps3s i have.

edit: if anyone has a link for me for a patreon or PayPal for bg i would be happy to contribute to them.

Picture's don't mean nothing (you gonna have a 20 hour flip book), Also if you have that many you are flashing more then likely your trying to profit off something somewhere with the free tools available.?? If your making money off those tools maybe yea you should give the official team something back.

The normal person does not have 100 PS3 laying around and a picture does not mean shit, You could have a stock photo or even a photo of ones you have, do we know they work? do we know they all were used in this process? No we do not know. Its just going to be a random picture that does not tell us anything.

I rather believe the people who create it and the other developer who built this scene, and realize the important aspects that keeps everyone;s console safe. The real toolset has complete brick protections (because it needs it).. The fakes do not (incomplete), they can work but they bypass checks and leave out checks to make it work and overall is incomplete, so it can cause issues. It's essentially fooling the toolset to proceed when it should not during problems That is why some people will have brick..its random and there are alternatives for running hoimebrew so makes no sense to promote something that is going to damage people PS3's.

People do not have 100 PS3, they may just have one in most cases and hear your "advice" and they are in a bad spot then, but i know you do not care about it as it seems, but we do. Hence why we warn and user's.. They can make their own choices but when people like yourself want to go above the warning and say its perfectly safe when its not.. Never going to go well here with people that know better, i am sure it works eslewhere among people who do not know any better.

Take this hypothetical example
Say there is 2 homebrew released, its a must have type of release,
Release 1.) it has a risk 4 out of 10 console's will brick upon launching it, If you dont brick your good to go.
or
Release 2.) This homebrew shares 95% of the same features but offer's no brick risk

Don't get me wrong @Pspguru but you writing "it works" doesn't mean jackshit.

The point is, that this MORON is risking peoples hard earned money and hardware, to frame himself as a Hacker, which he IS NOT!

It is as simple as that... --> He risks foreign hardware and claims falsities, to frame himself as "Über Hacker Nerd Pro Quo"!

This is just another Zeus, Jay-Jay, JeshuaChrist/Pot of Greed/... dude who wants to claim to be a super 1337 H4XX0R and guess what... Zeus (PSXHAX?) and Jay-Jay (PS2-Home) actually still contributed SOMETHING (for example a forum) to The Scene and for F sake, Zeus did almost the same shit which bricked PSPs... yet he still contributed SOMETHING (the forum).......

Where is this dude's ACTUAL contribution to The Scene, except for enabling some people to hack their PS3s (whilst introducing a high risk) based on someone else's work, claiming his version is better and does NOT cause bricks - which it actually does WAY more often than the original BG Toolset (which is the whole reason why the checks that he removed are existing in the first place) - and so on... ?!

Awesome :cheerful:. So if there is a person who provides stolen tools with support and bugfixes to others, why are you wasting your own time by following the official sources? I'm sure that if you really found an alternative, there is nothing new for you to find here. :encouragement:

it was a link to this post in the last release of the firmware.. And if you care about if a thing is stolen or not, i guess you cant use any custom firmwares, because its sonys code ..

I agree, an alternative is good. It's called PS3HEN.. :)

Also, by all means if you want to use a bugged and known to brick version go ahead. No one is stopping you, We are just here with more knowledge and common sense, So people with same common sense and logic can make a decision for themselves.

When we see uneducated or confused user's like yourself, we like to correct that as well Especially when they think they know more. To me it's kind of funny the only people who seemed to complain about our warning's are the people trying to profit. (guys trying to mod other's ps3 + low level YouTuber's )
 
Just adding on here that I believe I've seen another brick report from a user attempting to use one of these unofficial Toolsets. They're claiming that their "console doesn't boot anymore, it just flashes the red light and beeps 3 times"

Anyone wanting CFW on their console on the latest firmware, without a hardmod, really needs to go with PS3HEN. These bricks are still occurring on these unofficial Toolsets.
 
I'm actually glad I found you guys first before trying to follow a YouTube guide. Just started modding my older consoles and was about to attempt my ps3 next. I'm glad I didn't.
 
After reading over everything and seeing that there is really strong opinions on this matter i agree with people who have more knowledge on the subject than i do - actual developers. I won't suggest other people to use the alts for the patcher and I'm really sorry if i offended anyone with my lack of knowledge on the subject. I was just giving my personal experiences, which i know are just anecdotal and i understand sharing them will put other peoples hardware at risk.
Again sorry for being quick to judge without reading all the info you guys have shared before hand. If there is anyway i can help - with testing or donations just point me in the right direction and I'll do whatever i can.

Edit : I removed all my comments from Reddit where i told people to use alts.

Hopefully most people here are over 18. You're grown-up, you know the risks, it's your console, it's your choice.
If you understand that it's a coin-flip whether you successfully install CFW or brick your device and you knowingly decide to take that risk then no one will try to stop you, just don't mislead others into thinking that it's safe.

The flash worked I switched to Evilnat 4.89

If the flash went well can I have problems with the console not starting in the future?

How can I put the original nand back to reflash it with the real bgtoolset?

Do not post links to fake sites! Especially now that the real site is back.

That being said - If you're already on CFW it means that you're one of the luckier people, for whom the fake toolset did work. The risk of bricking is only during the flashing process. If you've already on CFW then there's no further risk, so don't go back to OFW and don't use bgtoolset again. Mind that even the real bgtoolset has a small chance of brick, e.g., if you lose power during the flashing process, so seriously, don't do that once you've already done that once. Also afaik the patches done by bgtoolset are overwritten by the CFW you install anyway.
If you want to update to Evilnat 4.90 just put it on a USB drive and flash it normally through XMB; there's no need to jailbreak again.
