PS3 Bringing Information Board Back

Does anyone knows how to make an old sprx to work on newer fws? @DeViL303 @sandungas @pinky @kozarovv

I already resigned it, but since the fw got a lot of changes since then, when triggered it will kick me to recovery. (the side menu actions for it is still there, but when clicked loads forever)

EDIT: without resigning it, it loads forever too

And the most interresting thing is that the information bar is just a interactive SFW file that just reads texts from urls. it is clickable and interactive

It might be possible to create another swf that pulls headlines from news sites, but have it run in a whats new pane like you are doing. I do not think it will be possible to bring back the official widgets without a lot of reversing. Too many files involved and lots changed in 3.00 when they removed it and added whats new.

Making something similar mogith be possible if someone knows flash very well. like @xps3riments maybe :)

yeah, I don't think bringing back the widget is possible. someone, may have been @DeViL303 , was trying to get it to work, but couldn't because of problems. I think you can get the widget back (partially), but it's not going to work the way it should.

@LuanTeles, how to make information text as shown pic above (top right, below the date and time)?
I am using 4.86 HEN 3.0.1, but there is no information text. Thanks.

There is a forum thread (and a page in psdevwiki) dedicated to widgets, if someone finds new info or tricks related with widgets i suggest to write in that thread to cummulate all the info in the same place

https://www.psx-place.com/threads/re-enabling-the-widget-known-as-information-board.21169/
Thanks for the thread link sandungas! I do plan to continue my work on revitalizing the Information Board! I recently acquired a DECR-1400a to do work on. (My CECHA01 I was using originally died 2 years ago, hence progress halted!) I am excited to crack back at it.

Someone was doing experiments in the RPCS3 emulator, that was a good idea, but im not so sure if RPCS3 have that functions implemeted

RPCS3 cannot connect to network
But maybe allows to have a visual confirmation that all the required files are working
Im telling this because the official PS3 firmware had a icon (yellow color under network ?) to switch the widgets ON/OFF
I mean... RPCS3 could be used for experiments to try to build that in other firmwares and to have the confirmation that the widget is switched ON/OFF correctly

Edit:
The goal is to enable the widgets in 4.87 PS3 firmware or newer, right ?
There are several requirements to achieve this, but the first one is to identify the files involved and "port" them to 4.87
RPCS3 could help in that... incase all the functions are implemented (not sure)

RPCS3 would help if it could physically render the xmb imo, which "afaik" and I quote that afaik bit since I could be completely wrong, I don't think the emulator would be able to make a firmware plugin show up in the list of bootable games etc.
I'd still believe more chance of success is on real hardware than relying on flaky emulation, personally speaking here from how long I used RPCS3 for my ps3 game revival projects.
