PS2 Broken DRCG-lite on SCPH-10000 --- CY2122(ZC2) vs CDCR61APW (aka CKR61)

Hi everyone!

About an year ago I got hold of an early brand new SCPH-10000 unit (J0549368), which recently started developing random in-game or OSDSYS crashes, where the picture would freeze and the background music would keep on playing. Learned the lesson... it lasted around a year with light use and the SCPH-20400 external BB Unit.

After reading a plethora of posts here on PSXPlace and the ruins of Assemblerforums, as well as asking in our Discord channel, my system just fell prey to the failure of what's likely the bottom DRCG-lite controller (CKR61) which is typically associated to these early 10000 and 15000 units.

Naturally, while looking for replacements, I just came to the inevitable question: Which would be the most sensible choice? Sourcing the ones made by Cypress or the ones made by TI? There are quite a few Aliexpress sellers that seem to sell the CY2212-ZC2 (supposedly with a 0048 datecode) and then there's the CDCR61APW, which is sold by Mouser in the US and guaranteed to be NOS stock.

This greatly confuses me because even though they're pinout and voltage equivalent, there are plenty of reports saying that both variants of the chips originally installed with these consoles are prone to failure, although the factory installed CKR61s are the more likely to crap out, according to what l_oliveira told me.

What are your thoughts, guys? Any personal experiences swapping either the CKR or both chips with brand new or similar replacements? If so, how long have your systems lasted after the swap? Given that this systems looks virtually unmolested, the last thing I'd want would be opening it up again six months later down the road :P.

PS: Is there any way to open up the bottom shell on the SCPH-10000 without damaging the blue sticker next to the ports? Just curious because the i.Link port somewhat protudes it and would love to keep this system as mint as possible.
