Can I jailbreak on 4.87 OFW with this ps3?

Well I managed to find a ps3 25xx series that has min version of 3.51. Meaning I can jailbreak it. But it was updated some time ago to latest firmware. Do i need to downgrade it? How so? I searched and found the ps3Xploit bgtool, that has the flash writer but i'm not sure if I can use it from 4.87, is it safe?

Just use the bgtoolset as normal, make sure you follow all the steps correctly and take your time. It supports all recent OFW's including 4.87.
