Hi Guys

Question,
Can two or more PS3's be connected together over a wan outside of PSN and host games.?

Like have one as a host and the others connect to it.

Thanks in Advance.

I think you will need to create a VPN server and setup the routers to connect to this VPN (to simulate a LAN - If you are using OpenWrt router, it's very easy). I don't know any other method that you can use.

And also, the game needs to have a LAN mode (I know there is some FPS that has it, but the only game I remember is Dark Sector).

Thanks for the reply, just to get some clarity around the topology, would you need a Openwrt router at each location where the PS3's are to be located or just where the host is, I'm trying to visualise how the it would look.

PsOne servers host games that were taken offline by sony. they are adding new games all the time, i think it relys on if they have packet captures of the game etc but yeah, they add new games all the time, maybe this can help you in some way? here is their discord https://discord.gg/rhugbkG2

Thanks,

just recently a PS3 Game called Blur Powered up Racing is having issues (last week in fact) where know one can connect to the multiplayer and this game does have a LAN game function.

not sure if we could run PS3 over the ps1servers, but I don't know anything about PS1 servers, will look into it.

In the fact, you would not need an OpenWrt router on every point to be the VPN client, but in this case, every client should have a computer with, at least, two ethernet connectors: one connected directly to PS3, and other, connected to internet (and VPN) sharing the internet connection with the "PS3 connector". If you don't mind with latency, you can use a notebook (that usually has wifi and ethernet connector on the same machine)

Could you do a sketch of what each end would look like, as you mentioned that each end wouldn't require an operwrt, however each end does requires a PC that has 2 lan connections, one to the VPN and the other to the PS3.

if possible you can send email to [email protected] would be good to get a better understanding for the get go,

Yes, I'll do it here, because someone can also need it. During my dinner, I was thinking about it, and it could be easy if a PS3 VPN client plugin exists. I'll also take a look if there some already, but if not, I'll add it to my "TODO list".

Yes, it seems the online died this week. Well, it lasted more than it should, 12 years! It's one of my favorite online games :D

It sounds redundant, but did you use a switch to create the lan?

@Dreadlox, I'm not very skilled on gimp but this is what I imagined:

I would use an OpenWrt router, using OpenVPN server on there (https://openwrt.org/docs/guide-user/services/vpn/openvpn/server). It's also possible to use OpenVPN server on Windows/Linux (without need an OpenWrt router).
The clients would need an OpenVPN client on routers or on computers configured to access the OpenVPN server.

I've seen them, I also tried Wipeout HD, but sadly all your old progress doesn't exist anymore on those servers. And I need to know how to play this again, it's called "xkai link"

Hi JC,

This what I had envisaged, however implementing it is a whole different thing, I guess the first step would be turning my PC into a VPN Server.

I could simulate the rest easy enough, just need some guidance on setting up server, and getting the other device connected to it.

thanks for your input any guidance would be appreciated.

Yes, I have been racing on LAN in the house, that's why it got me thinking about doing it over a WAN, still have to do some research on VPN networks, create one in the cloud, not sure how it works but will look into it.

Nice, I'll try to simulate your enviroment. What OS are you using on computer?

Wow, I would love to be able to connect to those servers once again, just to get a good round of pointless destruction and get some of the damn online trophies in the process :D.

Hi Elgris

No just using the same router in the house, one of the PS3's is wired the others on wifi, works perfectly.
