PS3 Cannot start game split into 4gb [SOLVED - iso was encrypted]

I'm running a phat system with the last cex/dex rebug released (so, firmware a bit behind).

It's worked fine in the past, but I never tried running a file over 4gb before. I split it with the directions here https://www.psx-place.com/threads/large-game-files-4gb-linux.33443/ and put the pieces in /PS3ISO.

When I load the game in wedMan Mod, it mounts correctly and shows up in the dashboard. But when I go to start it, I get an "an error occurred during the start operation" error.

This might be something really simple just given the fact that I have never ran a file over 4gb before (or even mounted an iso on my ps3). I'm aware that I could transfer the file to the hard drive without splitting it, but I would prefer to run it off the thumb drive if possible.

Any ideas?

What is the file name of the files? They must be named like filename.iso.0, filename.iso.1, etc.
They must have the same file size, except the last file.

The recommended split size is 4,294,901,760 (0xFFFF0000) not 4,294,967,295 (0xFFFFFFFF).

Are you loading the game from FAT32, NTFS, NET or internal HDD? Each device use a different method to load the ISO.

Hey, thanks a lot for responding. They are named *.iso.0, *.iso.1, and *.iso.2

first 2 the same size. Sized 4,294,901,760 as recommended. I used your example from the other thread pretty exactly.

I'm trying to load from a FAT32 thumb drive. And I've been trying to load it the same way I load non-iso'ed games, except from path /PS3ISO instead of /Games

Specifically, just webMan Mod->PS3 Games->Click on game to mount it. Then try to load it from the dashboard. As the game begins to startup, that's when I get the error.

Your procedure looks fine. I would check MD5 of the files and compare them with the source.
You can use /md5.ps3<full-path-of-iso> to check each file.

Also try mounting the game with a different backup manager (e.g. IRISMAN or multiMAN) just to discard that it's an issue of webMAN MOD.

are you saying I can generate an MD5 for the three split files combined and compare it against the original? I didn't know you could do that and I don't quite understand your example of /md5.ps3. I would normally use md5sum.

I've tried it with multiMAN and got the same thing, although it gave me a slightly better error message: ENCRYPTED/INVALID ISO

You know what, I suspect that the iso is actually encrypted. I just thought it had something to do with the splitting since it's the first time I ever did that :beguiled:

No. I was saying to compare the MD5 of each individual part (*.iso.0, 1, 2) in the USB with the parts produced on the PC.

You can get the MD5 directly on the PS3 with the the full edition if you open PS3 Internet browser and enter the URL like:
http://0/dev_usb000/PS3ISO/filename.iso.0

If multiMAN is reporting ENCRYPTED/INVALID ISO, I recommend you that dump your PS3 disc again.

IRISMAN can split the ISO during the conversion. I think multiMAN can do it too.

Just wanted to follow up and tell you that, indeed, the issue was that the iso was encrypted. It had nothing to do with the 4gb split or mounting the iso and I have everything working fine now.

Thank you so much for your help!
