PS3 CECH-2003B Downgrading Questions.

Heya it's me again, the rescued system i posted about a bit ago is working absolutely fine. But i want to downgrade it to 3.55 DEX for testing, but i've ran into a problem. I found a 3.55 downgrader for DEX on the psdev wiki, tried installing it over PASTA DEX firmware by joonie that i had on it but it was a no go. I get a "This update data is not supported on this system." despite it being a converted DEX system and it not being greyed out. So i installed the classic Rebug 4.84.2 DEX back onto it and still, the message persists.

Does anyone know an easy method to get this to install? I think i knew how a few years ago when i installed 1.00 DEX onto my fat ps3, then accidentally perma-bricking it due to my ignorance. But i have now forgotten that knowledge due to not being in the scene for a while.

Any help would be massively appreciated! Cheers.

EDIT: Nevermind, i had completely forgotten the safe mode method. :confused: Got it installed. :-p

Just a small update, i am attempting to load up webman mod, which it says it supports 3.55. But since cobra isn't a thing on 3.55 i have to use the Mamba/PRX Loader, but that also does not work as the log says "Unsupported firmware" which it also, states on it's page that it should support 3.55 DEX. Even multiman that says it does too, gives me the same error.

Any ideas? Thanks.
 
when you say safemode method, do you mean using c2d? I can't recall the specifics, but I still have that on my computer. I think theoretically, you could make one of 4.87, just there would be no firmware to install. anyway, I think there's a rex for that firmware (3.55), so it might've saved you the trouble. 3.55 cobra is with the dongle only iirc. I still have mine, and you can access the softemu with it. you might even be able to play ps2 games from external, but I can't remember. it's a predecessor to the netemu or ps2 classics emulator that later phats, slims, and superslims have to use.

I used Rebug initally to convert the system over to DEX, but when attempted to downgrade via the XMB it gave me that error message, so i restarted the system into safe mode and had to install it that way.

I noticed that when scouting around for firmwares, i might look into that and see if it can help me.

Yeah, i had a look around Cobra just to double check, and the earliest payload i could find was for the 4.xx series of firmwares.
 
hmm...I'm not sure what you're trying to do exactly. don't go any further back than I think 2.50. iirc, that's when the recovery menu became available.

when I bought my new ps3 or when it was it was new, the guy was on dex. I'm on cex again as I don't like dex very much. I have some experience with it, but not a whole lot beyond that c2d thing. I think it's the core os as mine is either 16 or 16.5MBs, can't recall which. there's a bug with c2d where either open ssl has to be run as administrator and c2d itself has to be run with older windows version in properties or the other way around or else it will error when checking config files. I think it's just to verify the files, because from what I've heard, it won't create a norbin file unless the files are good. you just need your erk and a nor or nand dump. this was to get around that error of being on the wrong nand/nor type of cex/dex. that's why I thought you had used it because it goes through the recovery menu iirc.:

Absoluetly none of my business, but I am really curious. Any chance you'd be willing to say what you're testing?

I think I have an old console I'm not using that I could roll back to 3.55if you could use any help. I'm not a coder, but I love testing & tinkering with new & weird stuff if I can be of any use. :)

Just random stuff in general, i was curious on what differences in the firmware were, i even managed to roll back to 2.70 DEX and i gotta say, the differences, even in the XMB itself are quite different to what it looks and feels like today. Tbf, i actually prefer the older feel and look of the XMB. :D

EDIT: Too bad it's so outdated that literally any homebrew doesn't load. Or else i would've kept it on the lower 2.70 firmware.

I think I remember an old thread somewhere here about xmb customization to go back to an older look, but I can't seem find it at the moment... :indecisiveness:
