PS2 Certain games won't run on OPL 1938 but work fine on 0.9.3

Hello there! I'm semi-new to the modding and I've managed to get my PS2 working on FMCB, been using the old 0.9.3 which had zero problems, but didn't support ZSO and the neat features of the newer versions. this came with a setback though as some games refuse to outright launch on the new software.

Time Crisis 3 (PAL version), Vampire night, Ratchet and Clank 2-3-4 work on the new version but Midnight Club 3 Dub Edition,SSX3, Def Jam fight for NY and Prince of Persia just hang up the second they're loaded. SSX3 has the spinning snowflake as it's loading but never loads, MC3 freezes with the black screen, and Def Jam freezes as soon as it boots with the memory card screen. tried the modes and everything but nothing helps, and I don't have the bandwidth to download anything big or else it takes half a day. any idea what could be causing this? I'm using the most recent FMCB, with a PS2 slim SCPH - 77004

You didn't specify what storage are you using to load the games. Since you're on a slim, is it USB or SMB?
On me, those games work for me (on 1938 build which were rebuild with the latest SDK changes). I'm using internal HDD though since I'm on fat console (SCPH-50000). Also might try to disable the PADEMU too.

Try deleting game configs. Old configs don't always play nicely with newer OPL versions in my experience. I also had to delete the entire OPL config once to get some things working when I had an OPL config from an older version

hey! sorry about the confusion, I'm using a flash drive with my console, with PADEMU disabled and the games that won't work were tested and managed with the new version of OPL manager. they had nothing to do with the 0.9 version before accidentally checking whether they work or not.

the games tested didn't work neither as ZSO, ISO nor the USButil format. the debug colors also don't show anything, the games boot, but are frozen usually on the first frame (which is black and I can hear the game booting because either the console starts cooling a bit louder or the CRT TV hums differently when there's a signal after loading the game) or load indefinitely. defragmanted the drive, tried other ROMS but they don't work for some reason

Turning on mode 6 may help.

honestly, I see no difference turning on one mode or the other, it doesn't change a thing because it won't progress past the point of freezing. nor do mode 1 or 2 nor 6, PADEMU is off because I heard compatibility is finicky. I'll try deleting the configs and redoing the whole thing with the manager, but I noticed OPL not seeing the POPS games either, even though the manager sees each game, and I even gave them cover arts

Sounds like an issue with your flash drive.

yeah.. but the games load flawlessly on 0.9, so I don't think it's the flash drive either. another thing is that I have some performance issues on a few games that I don't remember having it, like midnight club 3 dub edition mostly all the time and all the ratchet games whenever there are too many particles or enemies so maybe it's the PS2 that's giving up? sometimes the floor textures jiggle around but it's a rare occurrence and it's mostly not noticable unless you're looking for it

From your PS2 model number, it could be an issue with the DECKARD PPC.

what's that?

also my PS2 sometimes turns on, but freezes immediately and there's no signal and won't turn off unless I plug it off the wall, and I don't suppose that's normal either

Have you installed FMCB on a original Sony MC? On Clone MCs FMCB can sometimes hang on startup but you should be able to power-off the Ps2 or at least hard-power-off (hold the power button until it shuts off).
