All slim models are NOR.
I think only phat up to CECHG are NAND.
i can test the beta? because i haven't hw flasher and soldering skill.... (my rgh 360 know the problem.. idk why but don't want glitch anymore... damnnnn and have homemade glitch chip... it works for agess)

Ask Evilnat if you want the Beta.

The rule of thumb is that NOR is less risky because unlike NAND models, where the flash is 256MB and holds the entire firmware, in NOR models the flash is only 16MB and only holds the bootloader and a few other things, but most of the firmware is actually on the internal hard drive, which means that the only case in which you get a brick is if something gets screwed in the few specific parts that are still on flash. In any other case if something goes bad you'll end with a "soft brick", i.e. you'll need to reformat the hard drive and reinstall the firmware, which restores your console back to working order but you lose everything you had on it. Better back up your games and saves before proceeding.

The exact risk you take with the beta is something you'll need to verify with Evilnat but if I understand his previous message it should be stable enough unless you use two specific features - DEX mode (intended mainly for homebrew devs) and OtherOS (i.e. install Linux on your PS3, pretty much pointless at this point since modern PCs are way more powerful, even compared with the Core processor).

TBH if you have never installed a CFW or been a CFW user's your not going to be the best to give a test, .

Also its not best for you to get in on a test as the first go around as a beginner ..

I would wait until the official release if i were you,

Speaking of which,
I'm about to replace my 320GB hard drive with a 1TB SSD. It's NOR so I'm gonna have to reinstall the firmware. You think it's OK to instal the new beta directly after formatting? Or should I install the stable CFW first?

If you have to ask then i would say wait. It's your choice, but if your worried at all about a test then you answer your own question.

No one should test unless they do not mind having a potential brick. Likely will not happen with Evilnat (a very experienced PS3 developer) but you have to go in expecting it (as its a test) and be okay with it, Otherwise it makes no sense for test.. That is why good developer like Evilnat have a testing period so we know if its working as expected on all models. So if you fear a brick and would be bummed if one occurred then testing is not for you or anyone in that situation.

Yes i use your cfw since first release (and I love it). IAM use cfw from ages (I have mod 3ds (cart era and new era) Wii , 360 (I haven't mount the chip but I update the system many times) and now the PS3 (I use the guide in this forum, and I report a bug with USB joypad near USB stick with hfw). But if u say I need to wait no problem...

Finally I can use ProDG with converted modules from 4.84 DEX, next step is fix/merge XMB layouts, I'll start with Remote Play

Can you add a function that allows us to boot into safe mode directly from the xmb? (Actually I don't think it's necessary considering the options you already have via the xai plugin)

I don't know if I'll make it but I'll try

@LuanTeles I have finally managed to make OFW 4.84 DEX vsh.self file compatible with 4.89 layouts with reverse engineering and lot of patches..., I didn't touch RCO, SPRX... nothing else, web browser cursor is fixed too

It seems that all layouts are working fine only with vsh.self like old OFWs, I have tested it on 1080, 720 and 576, I can't test it in more resolutions

Wow that's amazing, would be nice to have it documented for future use if possible.

@Evilnat i opened up two new issues in your git about some improvements of the latest xai features, please take a look

In 4.89 will it be possible to delete trophies like rebug rex does?

@Evilnat Please consider adding these queries to category_psn.xml. Now that Destination Home are in beta some people will need support for showing Home in the PSN category.

IMO its better to do it like this, with hard coded Content IDs. This leaves us the option to use category HM apps in other ways if we need to.

Code:
<Query class="type:x-xmb/folder-pixmap"
key="NPIA00005"
src="xcb://localhost/query?sort=+Game:Common.titleForSort&cond=Ae+Game:Game.titleId NPIA00005+Ae+Game:Game.category HM"
/>
<Query class="type:x-xmb/folder-pixmap"
key="NPIA00010"
src="xcb://localhost/query?sort=+Game:Common.titleForSort&cond=Ae+Game:Game.titleId NPIA00010+Ae+Game:Game.category HM"
/>
<Query class="type:x-xmb/folder-pixmap"
key="NPEA00013"
src="xcb://localhost/query?sort=+Game:Common.titleForSort&cond=Ae+Game:Game.titleId NPEA00013+Ae+Game:Game.category HM"
/>
