CFW 4.89.3 Evilnat Cobra (8.4) (CEX/DEX/PEX)

PS3 CFW 4.89.3 Evilnat Cobra (8.4) (CEX/DEX/PEX) -

@Evilnat you forgot to mention the new cobra changes in the release post, like

Blacklist access to homebrews NP0APOLLO / NP00PKGI3 when CFW syscalls are disabled
Mamba 8.4 changes by @OsirizX used for Dynarec
Libcrypt Support for PS1 games (LSF/SBI files).
PSX Bios patched with product code 0x85 for PAL games

and etc

@Alonso240 I think it is fixed now, can you test it downloading the latest package with the option Update xai_plugin at the bottom of Custom Firmware Tools and load a PS2 Classic game?

That option will download xai_plugin Updater [v1.1], after downloading it remember to launch the homebrew to update stage2, it will reboot the PS3 if everything went well

Will report back asap. I have a long workday ahead of me now...

So just to understand it, the difference between P-Dex and DEX is only, that you can swap to CEX in P-DEX and in DEX you cant right ? So that is only the difference between P-DEX and DEX ?

EDIT: Okay nvm i think you just have either 2 or 1 kernel in the OS so its like
P-DEX: 2 Kernel (CEX and DEX)
DEX: 1 Kernel (DEX)

And thank you very much for your work! :)

DEX is updates released by Sony officially. Since nothing over 4.84 has been made public the highest FW one could use is 4.84 so Nat ported the 4.84 files needed to 4.89 for his new firmware. He is making a just CEX 4.89 for those that do not need to convert. His "P" just means ported. So while 100% functional it isn't directly from Sony. PCEX & PDEX style firware allows one to switch to and from.

I've always wanted to check my Syscon error log. Just to see what's there. Think I'll have to update and find out. Thanks to everyone for putting this together.

@Evilnat no update to Cobra v8.4?

Release Looks great,

buying you dinner soon :) Thanks Alot for all your hard work !!!!

Hi. First at all, thank you so much EvilNat for your work. Thanks to you I have 3 PS3 (a CECHC, a CECHG and a CECH2100) with CFW, better than new :D

I have a question. There is some difference in performance in games between CEX and CEX OC?

OC=Overclocked (RSX/CPU) - (See Project Boost thread for more on Overclocking PS3)

edit for anyone needing this
  • PEX= A Hybrid of debug (DEX) & retail (CEX)
  • D-PEX = Is the same as PEX (just installs on PS3 debug units)
  • CEX = Full Retail (CEX) firmware for retail console's
  • DEX = Full Debug (DEX) Firmware for debug console's (or converted)
  • noBD = BluRay Drive software patched (removed), allows for console's with damaged daugther boards to launch stored apps/content (on HDD/storage media) from XMB (otherwise can't)
  • noBT = Same as noBD but with damaged Bluetooth board.
  • OC= Overclocked (CPU/RSX) - if console has heating issue's not advised.

if want use mamba & disable cobra
how to do it?
rename stage2.bin?(same rebug toolbox)

in DEX, payload mamba 484D a same ?

I tested it with my original PS2 game Final Fantasy XII and it didn't crash, my PS3 is non-BC too. Does it crash every time you do it?
Just to be certain I've tried again with Final Fantasy XII too (PAL region, original disc) on a slim 2504. The disc is identified correctly as PS2 but when it tries to launch it you get a black screen and you have to full power cycle (unplug/replug) to get the console to work again.
I mean, it's not surprising since ps2_netemu is known not to be able to read physical discs (if it does for you it would be very interesting to know how...). You really should just add a check that prevents it from launching in the first place.

@Evilnat no update to Cobra v8.4?
It looks like @Evilnat forgot to change the version number in Cobra. It's actually is "8.4" but was labeled 8.3
EDIT: there is a new update of Evilnat 4.89.3 that now reports Cobra 8.4

@Evilnat you forgot to mention the new cobra changes in the release post, like

Libcrypt Support for PS1 games (LSF/SBI files).

Other changes in Cobra "8.4"
- Force video mode in PS1 games adding "NTSC" or "PAL" in the file name of the BIN/CUE
- PS2 FAN Speed now works with PS2 Classic games
- Updated PS3MAPI_CORE_VERSION to 0x0124 (OsirizX additions for Dynarec)
- Disabling boot_plugins.txt by Evilnat
- Check for NULL memory allocation in make_rif.c
- Map path like Mamba 8.4
- Fixed issue in PhotoGUI. It was truncating the path by 16 bytes

Not sure what happened that these were added, then removed
- Search boot_plugins.txt & boot_plugins_kernel.txt in /dev_usb000
- Load external stage2.bin from /dev_usb000 if the file exists (by haxxxen)
- Skip load cobra if the file /dev_usb000/no_cobra exists

If I recall correctly, it was causing sync issues with pad controllers.
I thought these features would be allowed if a flag file was created on dev_flash. But no :blue:
