CFW 4.89.3 Evilnat Cobra (8.4) (CEX/DEX/PEX)

PS3 CFW 4.89.3 Evilnat Cobra (8.4) (CEX/DEX/PEX) -

This is normal Because the value need to be stored in LV1 which doesn't always happen. Keeping rebooting it'll eventually work.

Yeap, In previous versions it didn't work on my console or it took a long time to show, I had to restart my ps3 several times, but in the last ones it worked fast and every time I tried

Reported (possible?) Bug

Video is included in the tweet

Anyone else have this expedience?

  • I tested and it worked as should for me

The issue is that the functions GetGpuClockSpeed & GetGpuGddr3RamClockSpeed in xai_plugin scan the LV1 memory for the value. And this scan takes some seconds (sometimes until a minute depending on where the clock values are stored in memory).

In the video the user calls repetitively the function without wait for the function complete with a response. The plugin is called multiple times until there is a memory fault.

@Evilnat This issue could be solved easily using a lock file or semaphore in getClockSpeeds, to prevent that the function is called again while it is processing.

Also the response time could be optimized, merging GetGpuClockSpeed & GetGpuGddr3RamClockSpeed in a single function that scan both values. Typically both clock values are found very near in memory.

I have ps3 Japanese Backwards, I have two problems, ps2 games recorded on disc is not recognizing and ps1 games on disc in American region is not recognizing it either. This happened after upgrading from cfw 4.88 to cfw 4.89.3

If you're on PEX maybe try to fake the PS3 region through the debug menu. idk whether it'll work or not. I'm currently on 4.89.3 PEX in CEX mode and I have no issues with regions and/or burned discs.

I had the honor of testing it in noBD beta, and it worked perfectly. Later I will install it in PEX version and enjoy it. Thank you very much @Evilnat you are a genius and good people

I tried here to fake the region, but it doesn't work, ps1 disc recognizes as music disc, ps2 disc recognizes as data disc

Do we have any tutorial on how to install this CFW? I'm currently on 4.87 OFW and I'm finding a bunch of youtube tutorials that require to open some ps3xploit page through the PS3 browser and install the CFW. Last time I installed CFW, I copied the file on the USB stick and installed it on the PS3 so I'm not sure what to do now.

Should I just update from 4.87 OFW to 4.89 OFW and then download the 4.89 CFW and install it through the USB stick like I did years before?

No. Currently the new CFW Evilnat 4.89.3 is available only for users already on CFW, with OFW 4.85 and below (they need to use first the ps3xploit flash writer), or with a hardware flasher.

Users already on CFW CEX or OFW 3.55 and lower, can install CFW Evilnat 4.89.3 PEX or CEX directly from XMB or recovery menu. Just rename the PUP to PS3UPDAT.PUP and copy it to the path /dev_usb000/PS3/UPDATE

Users with Rebug on DEX mode can install CFW Evilnat 4.89.3 D-PEX.

Users with OFW 3.56 to 4.85 can use ps3xploit flash writer to patch the PS3 to allow CFW installation.
NOTE: Although this method is proven to work, it is recommended to wait for a safer solution.

Users with OFW 4.86 to 4.89 should wait and avoid any dangerous clone of bgtoolset. Meanwhile they can install HFW+HEN until a safe flash tool is available (bgtoolset, lmn7's ps3xploit flash writer for 4.89 or HEN Flasher).

noBD/noBT/noBD+noBT editions are for PS3s without or damaged Bluray Drive and Bluetooth.

The OC editions are custom versions with GPU / GDDR3 RAM Clock speeds overclocked to 650 Mhz & 750 Mhz respectively.

I have updated Cobra on my Cobra repository, sorry to everyone about that, I didn't remember it

About mounting /dev_usb000 at startutp I have decided to disable it due its payload, it is too huge and freezes the PS3 because it overrides some data in lv2_kernel.self. I will try to use the current payload to use it but trying to minimize the size (I don't want to use older payloads methods)

Everyone can update xai_plugin and Cobra with the option Update xai_plugin, now it will show the correct version 8.4 along with the ability to use PS2 FAN Mode on PS2 Classics games

I would like to report a problem with CFW version 4.89.3 [OC], I tested it on my PS3 FAT CECHH-01 and the games freeze within minutes, the whole console crashes. The same problem occurred with the old 4.89 overclocked RSX version. I checked the syscom errors and there are no errors related to this.
My PS3 has 57 days of use registered in the syscom, it is sealed and has never been opened, so it could be a defect in my console or there is some possibility that the CECH "H" models do not work well with overclocking, maybe because this is the last console that uses RSX 90nm.

If anyone else has a CECH"H" model and is using CFW [OC], please let me know if it's working fine or not.

I've rolled back to version 4.89.3 PEX and it's working perfectly.
The new CFW 4.89.3 looks amazing, congratulations to everyone.

Sorry for my English, google translator.
