CFW 4.89.3 Evilnat Cobra (8.4) (CEX/DEX/PEX)

PS3 CFW 4.89.3 Evilnat Cobra (8.4) (CEX/DEX/PEX) -

@Evilnat firstly I'd like to say thank you for your wonderful work and epic contribution , this fw is truly amazing . I've been testing it for two days now , only issue I noticed was that Dino Crisis for PSX fails Libcrypt challenge , it works fine on Mamba 8.4 , not sure if someone else could test this to see if the issue is reproducible, it's nothing major just a tiny nitpick as all other LC titles are working fine just Dino Crisis locks up in Cobra.

That's strange, it is meant to work on both, @aldostools that submitted the PR to cobra.

The frequency 650/750 is unstable,my ps3 stuck 2 times randomly.but never happened with 600/750. model 2512b,not overheating,CELL 42℃,RSX 46℃.
Where did you find the 650/750? indeed 650 is unstable but Nat only released a 600/750 one

If your PS3 doesn't have overheating problems you can use it, the difference is noticeable. I personally use D-PEX because it is easier for me to investigate, I don't play games on PS3 atm

Or be like me, my ps3 has never been opened and reach 85C on the xmb in under 5 minutes or so hahah and ofc i'm using the OC'D version :P

my console lives like that since 2014 with the help of fan control

@Evilnat awesome job. thanks

i have one question, which version of xai_updater is for CFW Evilnat 4.89.3 Cobra 8.4 [CEX]?

xai_updater.pkg or xai_updater_cex.pkg

Thank so much mate ;)

Unfortunately OC can't be enable/disable while you are in the XMB, the only way is using a CFW with or without OC

4.89 CEX OC 650/750 is not very frequent. The machines are stuck in the system interface and the game in the system interface and the game. When the stuck was stuck, the machine temperature was not high, and RSX was only more than 40 degrees.
The OC system suggests that the old version only overclock to 600/750 is relatively stable, and no card is killed.
Tested for 4 days from the system and stuck twice.
Test model 2512

Typical users only need Evilnat 4.89.3 [CEX].

If you want the advanced features like DEX support or OtherOS, then install Evilnat 4.89.3 [CEX] [PEX].

The PUP labeled [OC] are overclocked. They are recommended if your console doesn't have overheating issues.

If your console is broken (doesn't have Bluray Drive or BlueTooth module or both) then use the PUP label [noBD], [noBT] or [noBD+noBT].

If your console is in DEX mode (typically if you converted it to DEX using Rebug 4.84.2), then you should install Evilnat 4.89.3 DEX or D-PEX.

In summary, Evilnat 4.89.3 [CEX] [PEX] [OC] is the best option for most of the users.

The latest version of Webmanmod is randomly disconnected when reading frequency

650/750MHz? Are you sure it is olverclocked to that frequency? I think I have patched it to 600MHz / 750MHz and it is working fine for me

Yes I also found it strange , I only have the one console to test it on that's why I wanted to hear if anyone else gets the same issue as I was certain @aldostools was involved with it getting added and it is working in Mamba so I found it odd it failed the LC challenge in latest Cobra .

Thanks very much for the help :)

@Evilnat Thanks for the new CFW..I've a problem though..For some reason none of My PS2 Classics are working ..when it starts, It goes into black screen and I hear the PS3 just spins down (I mean the fan) and the only way to come out of this, by force powering it off

I'm using 4.89.3 CEX

Hi mate, are you loading PS2 classics game on DEX (targetID)? If so it will give blackscreen, it only works on CEX.

Do you have an SSD by any chance?

The problem with the fan speed, are you using webMAN MOD FAN Control? I didn't check the code on that part but I don't know if at the time of loading the game webMAN MOD restores the control of the FAN to the SYSCON

No, I'm on a 2tb (internal) HDD. I've tried / checked the system and as much i can tell the target ID is the retail (87) one.

I'll look into the fan now as well (but I think - if WMM uses the dynamic fan control - it's on the default setting)

Which model did you get? Is it CECHA or CECHE?

Either way, yes I would say having the PS2 hardware is advantageous.
I prefer the CECHE as it cleans up PS2 graphics a bit more.

I have the A model, full hardware capable. The E is the "partially" hardware capable right?

I'm still unable to understand how I can install this CFW on my OFW 4.5! @aldostools, you mentionned that 4.85 and below could install it without the PS3Xploit site up, could you please elaborate? (sorry if the install guide was already shared).

Thanks!

The ps3xploit flash writer is the older solution that existed previous to BGToolset.
https://github.com/PS3Xploit/flash-writer

This tool was updated to work on OFW 4.85. User on older versions can update to 4.85 to use it.

OK thanks, so I:
- update to 4.85 OFW
- install HFW 4.85.1 (https://www.psx-place.com/#tab_1675778425) like an OFW update
- use PS3Xploit (NAND in my case)
- install Evilnat CFW

The only thing that I do not get is where to execute the PS3Xploit? Should I host it on a local web server? Directly on the github?
That's the last item that is unclear for me.
Thanks a lot for your patience @aldostools

@Evilnat Hmm...I've just noticed it.
Is this the correct position (or how it meant to be positioned) the notification for an update (afaik. On my prev. CFW it was in the middle..and actually when no updates are found, the text is properly aligned to the center)

Make sure you don't have PLAYSTATION 3 gameboot, Ultimate Toolbox or something that modifies flash files because it breaks the XMB layout

Install the xai updater PKG from my repository and it will be "fixed":
https://github.com/Evilnat/xai_plugin/raw/latest_release/xai_updater_cex.pkg

If not reinstall the CFW from Recovery Menu and check again if those strings are in the middle of the screen with a clean installation
