Hello everyone, new to the forum nice to meet you and many thanks to all the folks and their amazing work so far.
I recently got handed a PS3 fat (CECHK04) which i managed to do the process of JB to CFW 4.92.2 (Evilnat). However had some thermal issues with the CPU die itself - as i already repasted and only RSX recovered to around 45degrees Celcius but CPU kept hitting 82-84 at XMB - I tried unsuccesfully to open the IHS which long story short damaged the component and then the machine died.
Due to my rising passion of wanting to play some old titles i ended getting a ps3 slim (25xx) and i checked with minVerChk that it goes back to 3.4 -> hence its compatible with CFW.
Although i had the files backed up to do the process ready i see now that the toolset is down and i've read on the forums about the 4.90 flash writer etc.. and my, possibly, dumb question is:
If you have a machine that's at a version (lets say 4.84 which is mine), wouldnt I be able to do the JB up to 4.90 and put the respective CFW for 4.90 without the ps3toolset (using the alternative flash writers that i saw some links) and then just straight up update to 4.92.2 without the ps3toolset?
Maybe i have just missed something but i had to ask :P
p.s. secondary dumber question: people suggest doing HEN until its up again, but how easy its to transition afterwards to CFW ? do i need to go through some revert procedure and then go about cfw or will it be just continuing from the HFW step to the flash writing and then cfw?
