CFW Extras Category (Preview)

Here is a quick look at a new mod I'm working on, its a Network category replacement.

As you can see from the video, I have removed the 2 useless folders from the bottom of the PSN category, and moved 3 official network items over to it, then I renamed the category to "Network" (translated for all languages like in official FW). Then in the new CFW extras category I have linked up CFW Settings, package manager, webMAN games, XMBM+, XMBM+ 2k17, XMB Package Downloader, Configuration manager and Whats New on PSX-Place. (They only show up there if they get installed in the usual way). Also as you know pkgs can be installed to this category by changing the PARAM.SFO category to "CB", So I think I will add a folder at the bottom for CB apps.

Any ideas let me know, probably will be a while before I get a release together. I was thinking of having some spare generic entries in the XML for this category, in between each current item, so that other mods can be added easily with needing to modify flash.

This i like alot :) ...

Just looks so much cleaner like that .

Yeah, It should have been done years ago really, IMO.

Here is an update, Got a bit further with it. Now every item except Whats New is modular, What I mean by that is each sub item is stand alone and they can be enabled/disabled individually, they can also all be enabled disabled at once. So it can easily be customised to the users liking, for example, got kids, worried they are going to use CFW Tools, simply don't enable it, Find you need to reboot all the time, install an extra reboot icon at the top, etc etc. Ive also set it up so a few items can be added to the game category. And I plan on including a way to lock the Setup item. Check out the vid.

Thanks to Berion for the icons, and all the other devs who have worked on the components of this.

This item and all sub items are completely standalone, the installer includes all files that and dont require any other files to be installed (except webMAN sprx is required for WebMAN and XMBPD)

Ive used pkgs for the add-ons because it doesn't rely on any external plugin that way, I might switch it over to using the xai_plugin at some stage before release, not sure yet.

Only For Rebug at this time, and unreleased for now.

As usual, Always welcome ideas..

You are taking XMB MODS to a new level ,

Much needed love for the XMB, I like this setup the more i see it progress.

Overall might be one of the best XMB Mods / Setups,

i like the easy Add-on Setup section.

I should have mentioned, this category also has entries for the standard versons of the different mods, for example, if you have xmbextras pkg (XMBM+) by aldostools installed that will show up in CFW Extras and not in game, same with Berions XMBM+ 2k17.

But there are advantages to using the built in addons, All the xmls are in one place, so it is very easy to manage them, you can just rename or delete then to stop the item from showing (they can always be reinstalled from the addons pkgs), or you can modify and share each component individually.

Also the icons for ALL mods are in one folder. So it very easy to create theme pkgs that just install and overwrite them, Because as you know normal PS3 themes don't normally change the icons on XMB mods, well that shouldn't be an issue now. Im going to try release it with 2 style packs by Berion, Metalification and Rebugificaton, But others can create pkgs full of icons and drop them into the "STYLES" folder and they will show up in the setup menu, there is also an "ADDONS" folder where others can drop in their own addon pkgs if they wish.

Have not had as much free time as I thought I would for this and its my biggest project yet and its taking longer than expected as I keep adding new things and tweaking the existing mods. I have made some progress though. Now when you install any addon it fetches the latest version from my server everytime, there is still an option for installing local addons from pkgs too for offline users. Also now ALL items text labels are contained in RCOs, so this means ALL mods can be "easily" translated if people out there want to do that down the line.

I will need some testers for this before proper release if anyone is interested, some people who can give me some feedback on it. This mod is only for Rebug 4.81.

Also I have spent some time cleaning the category xmls of old unused entries like PlayStation Home, and all the "shop" entries for store consoles etc. Then I implemented my XMB extension system I was talking about a few months ago, so now mods can be installed to any category without modifying flash again, I have made 5 "slots" in each category (except settings), and I have included a special "Extra" item that can be used to download mods into ANY slot.

Due to the way it works now, when installed initially it only adds 1MB of files to your PS3, (icons and small bit of xml) , then as you download addons this can increase up to 20MB in total. I will be providing a pack of all addons in pkg form too, so they can be installed locally as well, but really these are not required for most users unless you want offline access to the addons.

Yeah its getting there :)

Forgot to show how addons are removed in the video, its very simple, as all the xmls for all the mods are in one folder, I went back to the old Unlink trick from years ago that started all this, so no external plugins required for this function either , so this means items can be added and removed without webman or xai or cobra. Just press triangle and select "Delete" ;)

I think its basically ready for release after some testing, Testers and translators wanted if anyone has some time! :)

There are about 500 lines to be translated, a lot of them will be better off staying in English as they are technical things, and a lot of them have just one word so its probably closer to 200 lines.

I could translate it to Arabic , alot of people on our forum would love that although i dont think ps3 supports it? any workaround if so i would love to help.

hmm. what language do you normally have your PS3 set to? see this will work based on the XMB setting so im not sure of a workaround without replacing another language.

Just found a few bugs on the ingame XMB with missing icons, so im working those out now.

Well thats a problem ps3s dont natively support Arabic but i saw various mods and custom cfws adding supporting to it :(

well if you want to translate the entries for me, I will make a special version for you that replaces the language of your choice with your entries, so if you want me to replace English, then when you set your XMB to English your entries will show, the rest of the XMB will still be English unless you want to translate that too.

Or..if you are already using a mod that translates your XMB then I could use those rcos as base.

PM sent with the text file that needs translating, im sure we can sort something out ;)
