CFW Extras Category (Preview)

Looks impressive. Congrats and viva xai_plugin :)

I can make a French translation if not already done. Then test it.
Let me know @DeViL303

Edit:
Just opened the file. It's huge!!!
But I said I'll do, so I'll do.

That would be great, but yeah, the file is kinda big..sorry. :culpability::sem blush:

I will PM you the files too in case you want a look.

Quick questions: As for the sliding text that appears under the topbar clock on XMB, you modified the xml files on hdd? Do you need to be connected to psn to make it appear? I wanted to abuse that for custom menus and other information like temperature etc. :)

Yes, those are the titles from the Whats New items, for the Whats New to work you need to have a PSN account on the PS3 attached to your user, and an internet connection (the internet connection is still required even if its reading from a local file), basically it just needs the entries in the xregistry and it works..I think its partly/mostly so it knows what region adverts to show you and the age of the user.

I was hoping somebody like yourself might be able to hack it so it worked without that hint hint :)... It doesn't actually need to be logged in, it doesnt even need any connection to PSN.

I didn't modify xmls on hdd exactly, what I did was modify the whats new link in the explore full sprx, so it grabs an xml from my server instead of Sonys. It can be set up to read from a local xml too if webman is running by using a http;//127.0.0.1/...xml link (like in webman Launchpad)

I was actually thinking about this a few days ago...

In theory, by using a proxy we could catch the reply the OS requires from PSN to kick-start the "what's new" feature.
Then, once we know exactly what data to provide, we could code a new feature in webman or whatever that could feed that answer when offline. Short of implementing a simple relay feature directly on the PS3 (we could reuse some open source code like netcat for this), it would require using some relaying software like socat or Charles to redirect the PSN call or maybe a temporary patch of the PSN uri with 127.0.0.1 in the appropriate sprx or wherever...

Edit: you added information to your post. I see you already use the proxy/patch trick & you already know what data needs to be fed to the system...[emoji6]

I could be wrong but I think once its redirected there are no connections to PSN by the Whats New item. I would have to check to be sure with a proxy. But I think what decides it is the entries in the xregistry and some kind of flag that gets enabled when there is an internet connection. I know the normal Whats New link has a few "%s" variables in it that get replaced with region, and environment, and I know after a format it will work with just an xregistry.sys with a PSN account attached, without ever actually going on PSN. Also it seems to work for people that use PSNpatch, so that tells me its probably not connecting to PSN, or I could be wrong..thats about all the tests I have done.

P.S When I patch the link in for example the Whats New on PSX-Place mod, I am patching out the variables so region is no longer an issue.

I think the type of patch this needs is something on the local end to tell it to use certain static values rather than look to the xregistry for them..or maybe there is a proper way to do it, some kind of Whats New debug mode.

When I talked about getting "what's new" data from PSN, I did not mean literally from a PSN authenticated connection but rather from S#ny's servers in general...
But for the sake of clarity, you are right to specify that the feature does not require to be authentified though...

I know what you mean, but I don't think there is any other external connection to any server, except for the actual xml link which can be even be local. I really think its something simple like a flag that gets enabled when there is PSN info in the xregistry and an active internet connection.

I am guessing of course :)

Release coming soon..Just hoping to get a few translations completed and included. Arabic, Spanish and French are done already.
