CFW vs PS3HEN

Hey Guys,

I am quite new in this CFW and HEN field. So I had a couple of questions to ask, if you could please help me before I make any mistakes with my PS3 Slim - would be really nice.

I got a PS3 Slim OFW 4.82 20xxx version.

1. Is it better to install CFW or HEN firmware, what is the difference between them?

2. What version of CFW or HEN is better to install? I just read somewhere that Sony blocked an option to download games directly from one of that firmware on version 4.87 or 4.88.

3. I saw a video on Youtube stating that CFW 4.86 is more stable and has access to the game library to be downloaded directly on your PS3 and CFW 4.88 is much worse in that sense.

Could you please help me with these questions?

It's quite straightforward actually.
CFW is a customised firmware, it means a full jailbreak from boot, with it everything goes.

HEN is the next best thing, it is a semi jailbreak applied on top of the OFW system software, it is geared towards console models that aren't CFW compatible, you can run homebrew, play backups but you cannot use customised system files & must reapply your customisations & HEN after every boot.

20xx models can use CFW.

you can always play online on latest firmware (with precautions). you can also use the official playstation store to download new and old purchases. you can spoof on older firmware to get online also but it may be riskier.

Evilnat is the only 4.88 CFW, but it has many features that no other CFWs have. Rebug REX is preferred by some people but 4.84 was the last one (newer Rebugs are "lite" versions). the last 2 Ferrox versions have broken ps2 support AFAIK.

i recommend Evilnat 4.88. it is going to recieve a final update but 4.88.2 beta is available now

Your PS3 is CFW compatible, so not sure why you went for HEN. You don't need any toolset or exploit to download games directly - you can do this from the official PlayStation Store.

Well, I went with the recommendations. I thought that HEN is better and you can play online, but there is no games in toolbox, only demos and now my Hen freezes every time I try to start it, after I launched the HEN toolbox.

Honestly the worst experience, I regret I didn't go with CFW, not sure if I am able to install CFW now.

CFW is better, but newer models can not install CFW. HEN works on all models, but was made for models that can not install CFW.

CFW, HEN, and HAN do not have free games. This website has rules against piracy. You can use the official Sony Playstation Store to buy games (there are some free ones but they are small).

you can switch to CFW easily. just turn on your ps3, but do NOT enable HEN. follow this guide or watch MrMario2011's youtube video about "Bgtoolset".
