Changing Region on HAN/HEN via xRegistry.sys

Finding other changes (or lack thereof) that are not in xregistry.sys would require reversing or using the debugger to step through the region change code execution, I don't see any alternatives.

However I don't think I can help you with that part, I am busy working on other PS3 related matters & I already have my plate full with reverse engineering as it is, I only meant to provide the basic info I could..

You already helped me a lot. I'm just curious to know if it's actually possible to do the same as changing region from debug menu, only editing the xRegistry.

However I currently don't need it. My Ps3 is now NTSC (North America), all my Ps3 games (aside those 2) output at 60HZ as I wanted.
PSN-PAL-PS1 games obviously give me the video output error message (PAL-CD games work instead, in NTSC @60HZ).

I'm pretty sure that editing the video output will make my Ps1-PSN games to work.
I only need to change this value: 0xB7EE /setting/display/tvSystem from 00000000 back to 00000001 as it was when region was set to PAL.

That would require a lot of extra code that would increase the plugin size too much.

The "PS3 Registry Editor.exe" in my PS3 Tools Collection allows to export the values to CSV.
Then just need to compare the text files.

I still have the original xRegistry.sys before editing it (or changing something from debug menu).

Therefore I'll install HEN as soon as I find some free time for extract the current xRegistry.sys and I'll make a comparison.

Did you do it? Did it work?

What exactly? I didn't made that xRegistry comparison yet. Being the wireless/BT board melted, I cannot easily install a FW update.
Hi! Can u plz tell it it's possible to change xregistry file on HEN without damaging the console? Or it's on my own risk? I have European super slim. Thanx in adv.

If you only correctly change the region and video-output (that's what I've done) values you can't do any damaging.

Keep in mind that just changing the Xregistry values won't actually make the Ps3 as a NTSC one (many games will keep outputting PAL).
I solved the issue switching the Ps3 to North America from the debug menu. This way almost all games output in NTSC.

Also after changing video-output mode, Ps1 games from original disc will be forced at 60HZ and PSN-Ps1 games won't start.

AFAIK the region value is just for determining which region the console will play (which in the case of CFW is mostly pointless because CFW bypasses regional restrictions, though it might still be needed for physical discs). The video output value determines whether XMB is displayed using NTSC or PAL via the analog input. AFAIK it has no effect in-game as it is the game that decides the video output and at least AFAIK the PS3 can't convert PAL to NTSC or vice versa.
That being said, you should probably just use HDMI instead of the pretty much obsolete analog output. Since it's digital it has no NTSC / PAL encoding and the PS3 upscales the resolution to 1920x1080, so the only difference between NTSC and PAL region is whether the frame rate is 50Hz or 60Hz.

HD resolutions (720p, 1080i/p are 60HZ only on games).

I had to connect the Ps3 to a CRT TV ( PS3 - xRegistry editing | PSX-Place ), it wasn't a problem about regional restrictions.
Differently from the X360, the Ps3, lack a 50/60hz selector and if the console is set to PAL region will output in PAL mode when connected through an SD cable (SCART-RGB in my case).

All PS3 games are made to work also in SD (either PAL and NTSC standards). I wanted games to output at 60hz, that's why I changed the Ps3 region from the debug menu (I have a super-slim, so no cfw, there was only HAN back then).
