PS4 Charging DS4 with a wall/phone charger?

I just bought a DS4 to use with my PS3. After some research, it appears that you should not use a fast-charger rated above 5 volts, because that can and will fry the battery. I have an old charger rated at 4.8 volts. According to this site (https://gamingsection.net/news/can-...2/#Can_I_use_a_5V_charger_with_a_37_V_battery), it is okay, that site is about 360 controllers but both controllers use 3.7 volt batteries.

My question, this charger is okay to use, right? It may charge slightly slower than a 5 volt one, but it's not going to ruin it, correct?

No you won't kill it. I just plug into the PS3 if needed most of the time.

even if the controller is running on 1.5v batteries, its fine, as long as your following the controller input voltage is. For PS3 and PS4 controllers, that's 5v.

All USB chargers output 5V by default, and they only output higher voltage after negotiating the maximum voltage with the device being charged.

This one I have actually is 4.8 volts, but that won't matter with the DS4, right? I have another one that is 5.1 volts, but it's only 600 mA (DS4 is rated at 800 mA). The 4.8 one is rated at 1000 mA, but every source says that doesn't matter, it will only use up 800 mA. Every source also says that using less than 800 mA will work, but the controller will charge slower, and if you use it while charging it will actually use more juice than it takes in. Sorry for these dumb questions, I just want this thing to last as long as possible.

Slight voltage variation doesn't matter, it's normal. I'd say +-0.5 volts is okay for USB. As for the amperage, use the highest that you've got, cuz why not? 1 amp is plenty. At the end, the ds4 decides how much current it'll take. It won't take more than a charger can supply, but if that's the case it'll simply charge slower. If you want your DS4's battery to last the longest, consider using it wired altogether (this option is only available for DS4v2).

TLDR: Use the one rated for 1000 miliamps.

I'm not sure about the charger listed myself, but I can confirm 100% that plugging directly into a cell phone charge can and will fry out something on the DS4's. My cousin did it to one of mine some months back and after that it stopped taking charges and would get incredibly warm when attempting to charge.

Check your charger. If it's rated over 5 volts that's the problem. If not...I don't know, every source I've read says 5 volts is okay, so do the guys here. This video explains a lot, there are others I've watched but they're basically saying the same thing...

I have (had) 3 Dualshock 4 Controllers ...

2 of them were killed by a USB Charger.

Charger was 5V 2A and everything was fine for a couple of years ... but, the charger became faulty and that's when my 2 Dualshock 4 controllers stopped charging ... even when plugged directly in the PS4 USB Port.

Bought 2 Charging port replacements online .. didn't fix them.

3rd Dualshock 4 thankfully i did not plug into the USB Charger and it still works ... from now on, i will ALWAYS charge the controller plugged in the PS4 Pro Console's USB Ports.

Please do not spread misinformation. Normal USB chargers will never fry your devices. Don't use cheap chinese chargers as those can fry your devices. Current is irrelevant as the pad decides how much current it can take, not the charger.

Uhhh. It's not misinformation dippy. It was plugged into my samsung phone charger and it got borked. Do with that what you will. IDGAF

It's NOT misinformation :mad new:

Just because it's NEVER happened to YOU does not make it impossible to NEVER happen.

It was not a "cheap chinese charger" it was Western Digital Portable USB Wireless HDD Charger ... it failed, and fried my 2 Dualshock 4's

It's like saying we shouldn't eat anymore because you ate something that caused you to have a bad reaction. There's plenty of other reasons why a pad isn't turning on after charging it. Could be the battery died. Could be a short circuit somewhere. Could be that a pad was at the end of its lifespan and it simply happened to die during charging. You cannot blame the charger right away without diagnosing the dead pad's board and battery. Even if it were the charger's fault, that still doesn't mean all USB chargers are bad - could be you simply have a faulty one. It's electronics - they can randomly stop working or malfunction for just about any reason.
By spreading misinformation what I meant is under normal circumstances, regular USB chargers will never fry your device and you shouldn't tell others using them is dangerous just because you had a negative experience. Yes, there's always a teeny tiny chance that something will go wrong and your pad won't turn on anymore (for any reason, not just by charging with a USB charger), but then again you may as well not eat anymore as there's always a very tiny chance you'll die each time you eat.
