Cheating on disc games

Hi guys,
I'm relatively new to the PS2 homebrew scene and I'm having some difficulties finding an answer to the following question so I figured I might as well ask the experts :)

I'm currently running a SCPH-30004 PS2 with a Modbo 5.0 modchip and I'm using OPL to play games from an internal SSD. Obviously, using cheats on that setup is easy enough.
However, I also have my childhood PS2 Slim lying around (I think it's a SCPH-75004, at least I know it doesn't have the IDE points available) that I want to install a modchip (and picfix) in and I'm thinking about getting a SCPH-9000x as well to do the same thing (yeah, I'm a collector and I love complicated mod installs)
So my question is, what's the best setup to use cheats when playing games from discs?
I have heard of a homebrew tool called Cheat Device that I guess I'd have to boot to, then select my cheats, then boot the disc. Is there any tool available which would make that process more seamless?
Ideally, I'd like to have a setup where I would go through the entire original boot process straight into the game but "something" would automatically load a cheat file from my memory card and enable every cheat in there automatically.
Is that possible with ps2rd? I usually mod the binaries of the games instead of using the classic cheat files so I can just burn modified ISOs for the most part which would allow me to do exactly what I want, but in some cases that isn't straight forward (Shadow of the Colossus or MGS3 come to mind for example).

Thanks!
