PS3 Compatibility List - PS2 on PS3

It seems commands 0x1C, 0x1D, and 0x1E all have to do with multitap emulation.
Great progress, identifying 3 commands in a hit is very unusual :encouragement:
I dont understand well whats the point of this commands, tere are some games that requires the multitap to be connected in a specific port... and the dualshock's connected in specific ports of the mutitap ?
And what happens if we dont use this multitap cmmands in those games, the emu is not able to detect more than 1 dualshock ?

By now after reading your explanations in wiki and here i cant imagine any candidate game that could require this commands. I mean... years ago i played lot of PS2 games (included some with multitap like baldurs gate and mashed fully loaded, some fifa, pes and nhl too) but i dont remember any game displaying a warning screen with a message with instructions about how to connect the multitap and the dualshocks

It seems the multitap emulation is disabled by default just like the pressure sensitive controls. Every multitap supported game does need this command for enabling it.

:cower: That would mean that about +470 games * 1-3 regions need to be added to the database to enable multitap support.
I wonder if a patch for multitap/pressure sensitive controls could be hardcoded in the ps2_netemu (for CFW only of course).

This is a list from wikipedia with the PS2 games that use multitap.

Nope, it's enabled by default, but the controllers sync to the wrong controller port and require manually remapping by default. For example, in NightFire without config, controller 2 syncs to port 2 and controller 3 syncs to port 1-B. This makes it that no multi tap is inserted. You have to manually switch controller 2 to port 1-B and controller 3 to 1-C.

The multitap is inserted on the fly when controller 2 is inserted into port 1-B. Otherwise, no multitap is inserted and the controller is not detected. Command 0x1D makes it so the multitap is inserted on game boot and the controllers sync properly to their given multitap without the need of manual configuration in the emulator menu.

In Mystic Heroes by default, controllers 2 and 3 sync to 2 and 1-B respectively. This makes it so controller 2 is inserted into the second controller port, and controller 3 is inserted into controller port 1-B on the multitap. However, the game only detects a multitap in port 2 and will not care about port 1. 0x1D sets the multitap to be enabled on boot in controller port 2 and also correctly syncs the controllers to the multitap in port 2 to make all controllers usable.

Sorry for this long-winded explanation. I'm on my phone right now. TLDR, it's enabled by default, but the configuration is weird.

Hmm, so is related with this screen... lets say... either directly or indirectly... this multitap commands are configuring the controller settings in this screen ?
jsyvaqqr-png.9338

@sandungas Correct! Command 0x1D alters the way the controllers are "plugged in" on that menu. If 0x1D is set to 1, controllers 2 and 3 will sync to ports 1-B and 1-C respectively.

It also ensures a multitap is inserted into the controller port at all times regardless if any controllers are inserted. This isn't explicitly shown anywhere on the emulator menu, but you can see games check the memory card in port 1-A instead of port 1 in games that support the multitap, and also multiplayer set up shows the multitap plugged in even if only 1 controller is inserted.

Im reviewing the official configs extracted from gxemu and softemu with the tool get_config made by zar to see in how many other games was used the multitap commands:
https://github.com/Zarh/Get_CONFIG/blob/master/log.txt <--- gxemu
https://github.com/Zarh/Get_CONFIG/blob/master/soft/log.txt <--- softemu

[Net] Command ID : 0x1C
Not used by any config :(

[Net] Command ID : 0x1D
Used in "Sonic Riders" config (SLES_535.60) with value = 2

[Net] Command ID : 0x1E
Used in all the "FIFA 2001" configs with value = 3

Here's a visual of what command 0x1D is doing (through PCSX2):

007: NightFire without command 0x1D and only one controller connected:
memcard1.PNG
multitap1.PNG

007: NightFire with command 0x1D set to 1:
memcard2.PNG
multitap2.PNG
These are both with only one controller attached.

The next is with three controllers connected without config:
2controllers.PNG
Yes, three controllers. Controller 1 is mapped to 1/1-A, controller 2 is mapped to 2/2-A, and controller 3 is mapped to 1-B by default.

By manually switching controller 2 to 1-B and controller 3 to 1-C in netemu's controller settings, the game will then show:
final.PNG
This is also what is shown with the config/command 0x1D set to 1 and 3 controllers connected. Command 0x1D negates the need to manually configure and remap the controllers while also showing that a multitap is inserted at all times regardless of the controllers connected.

Command 0x1C additionally *only* enables port 1's multitap, so a multitap will not be auto-activated in port 2 if the controller mapping is manually set to 1/1-A, 2/2-A, 2-B. That seems to be the main purpose of command 0x1C.

Fixes freeze after Konami logo. Freeze only happens on PAL v2.00 and NTSC-J as reported by the compatibility list. The game also supports the multitap, but game seems to be fine with the default setup with all controllers working properly, so no additional configuration is needed.

Freekstyle (SLUS-20367, SLES-50753)
Freekstyle Motocross (SLPS-20231)

I have included some PPF patches to fix the black screen after the PlayStation 2 logo. It is currently not possible to make a 0x0B patch config for this game for some unknown reason (double checked with the help of @Agrippa).

With these PPF patches, the game should now be playable. Just apply through PPF-O-Matic and voila. :)

Nevermind the PPFs! Both the PAL DVD and the NTSC CD versions require +0xC adjustment to the offset on disc. Weird.

Hey there I don't know if I'm just stupid or something but what do you actually do with the codes lol, no clue where I'm meant to put them and can't find info on it, trying to use the code listed earlier in the thread for melty

None of the Melty Blood games work. I only ever got to fix the freeze on the main menu intro, but I never managed to figure out what was causing any of the other freezes. I never posted that fix, but if you want it I will post it. The game still freezes randomly. :(

All of the configs posted in this thread can be found on the config database maintained by @aldostools: http://ps3.aldostools.org/ps2config.html

You can download the config for your game there and select it when making the package in PS2 Classics GUI. If you are playing from ISO or encrypted ISO and mounting through WebMAN, you can use the latest version of WebMAN MOD with the PS2 Config Database package and it will auto-load the config when mounting your game.
