PS3 Death of internal clock

I have started my old CECHL04 from long time of no use and discovered that every time on start, ask me to setup clock. Does PS3 have some kind of CMOS battery to keep clock alive?

But this is not an issue for me, I'm more curious... why every content which using exdata doesn't work on default factory date? It prints some error related to NPDRM but forgot the exact number.

Yes, there is a battery, 3v like PC cmos battery :D

Is a cell of the same size than the ones from PC motherboards

What im going to say could be different by motherboard version though but as far i remember the PS3's allows to replace it without need to dissasssemble the PS3 completly
I mean, the metal "shields" that covers the motherboard have a hole that allows you to insert your fingers to get the battery cell
Open the PS3 case and move the BD or the PSU a bit, most probably you are going to find it easy
In your motherboard it seems to be located next to the ethernet connector

I rather want to avoid disassembling as I don't putting so much faith in my manual skills. ^^ It would be a shame to disassemble console an not assemble her back. Well it is not very annoying to me to setup time & date on every start as I'm no longer playing games on PS3. But thanks for advice anyway, maybe one day I'll change my mind.

Anyone know the answer to my second question? ^^ Why this affecting license validation?

I'd assume that the factory default date is something like "1/1/1999", and is a date before the "start date" from your content's license. Then since the date is outside the license window, you can't start the game.

In my CECHG model I need to disassemble it almost fully to replace de battery, I guess that in CECHL a similar situation.
Some fat models require only the top plastic to be removed and the battery can be disconnected easily as it is wired rather than in a battery "socket".

Something that happened to me is that even after replacing the battery, the clock still asked to be adjusted, and sometimes it didn't ask to be adjusted but for some reason internet connection didn't work and games said that the license is invalid (or something like that, the same error you mentioned), and the only fix was rebooting untill it decides to ask for the time again as the clock settings also failed when trying to change it in the xmb.
