PS3 DECR-1000A Questions

Ohh i understand, tbf i've wanted one of these since i first saw they existed. Really hard to come by nowadays.

Just given the Gears of War build a try, it is indeed so bizarre seeing it run on a Playstation system. xD Also, the Rebug installation was a success!
 
Heya, me again. This is just more out of curiousity, but i noticed when looking on the psdevwiki, that certain variations could have had OS versions before 1.00 even came out. As far back as 0.84, and that some have a "b07 RSX"? Of course i wouldn't even attempt to downgrade to a version that low.

I had a look on my system update page as saw it said it can take as low as 1.00. Just wondering mainly what a "b07" RSX is or what it means?

I have a DECR1000A with b07 RSX. Basically it is a hardware revision, many refurb DECRs had it. Early DECRs had their b05 RSXs die, b07 is a little more reliable, but as we know, RSX is not a reliable chip until the 45nm generation. While you can downgrade to any firmware, going below 1.0 will brick the unit as the firmware will not know what to do with b07 RSX and cannot initialize it

Thank you for the clarification! Would there be an easy way of identifying what revision there is on these systems? Or would it be more the case of dismantling it to reveal the RSX from underneath the heatsink. I was told that the one i got was basically opened but hardly used, just sat in safe storage for years. So i was wondering since i now know that there are other revisions, if mine is one of the earlier ones, considering i was never told that the DECR i got was serviced in anyway.

EDIT: Granted, i did install webman and check the total on time, i think it was around 400+ days. So it might be infact a refurb unit.

EDIT 2: What is extra funny is that, in the CFW tools Rebug has by default and you press "Minimum downgradable version", it says "0.08"

DECR units use the b01, b02, b03 and b07 RSX rom versions. Sony released special firmwares for the b07 units but we only have few of them, for example 100.002 is the normal 1.00 version and 100.004 is the version for a DECR with b07 RSX.

It'll always say 1.00 (or 0.08) even if you have a b07 RSX, but it'll brick if you install a "normal" firmware below 1.60 on it.
To check which RSX rom version you have, just look at the boot log, it has one line starting with "rsx:" (https://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/RSX#ROM_Versions).
 
Now i can understand why i was give the DEH-R1000 manual. Funnily enough what i didn't realise at the time was. On the label of these systems is the FCC ID which just so happens to contain "DEHR1000" in it. "AK8DEHR1000" being the full ID.

This hardware gets more and more interesting for me as i dive into researching about it. ;)

EDIT: And now i know mine was manufactured in "August 2006".
 
Can some of you with a PS3 reference tool do an easy test to check a detail related with xRegistry.sys and wiki ?
Please open xRegistry.sys in a hex editor and post the first line, in retail/latest PS3 models it looks like this:

Thx, yeah is the same, but i guess it depends of the firmware version you are running, after all is the firmware who have to deal with the xRegistry.sys internal structure
If at some point you donwgrade (for other reasons, not only to do this check) please remember to take a look at it and advise me to mention it in wiki

Im curious because there are some unknown values from the current version 2, but (in theory) version 1 should be a bit more simple
They uses to keep backward compatibility in the code for the different fileformats, so (in theory) version 2 is an expansion of version 1
 
UPDATE: I noticed that DECR's usually have round feet screwed into the bottom, but i didn't have them. So with help i was able to 3D print some! Makes it look so much nicer, plus prevents the bottom from getting scratched. Pics to follow.
 
So i did more research on the CP, never knew it was it's own seperate system that runs Linux and hosts the web interface. And can apparently be exploited to gain root access to it.

I noticed my CP is ver. "1.3.3" but i can't find any information on the versions that were released. Only that they were packaged in .bin files. Does anyone know anything about the CP to do with firmware revisions and if they're any still around? Or at least, what the latest CP version was released?
