does the backup utility preserve digital purchases from PSN?

i plan on buying some PS3 games off PSN, i was wondering if the backup utility will backup all my digital purchases on the USB drive, and allow me to restore all the games onto the new ssd HDD that i will swap into the ps3?

i searched online and only found the following, is it true?

The backup does not include purchased content, including downloaded games, movies or apps. It also does not include game data.

System Backup Utility covering up literally everything from HDD. But the problem is restoring it. Depend of the console and rules, not everything is restored always (i.e never trophies, never act.dat, and on different MOBO/console also everything which is inside protected archives (i.e saves with CP)).

Anyway, this is piece of shit. Don't use it. Just file manager or FTP client and search on forum what is worth to backup and where all it placed.
 
on the xbox360 its possible to transfer digital purchase from HDD to a USB stick, then swap out the old HDD for a new one, then put the USB stick back into the console and transfer the digital purchase back to the HDD. its unfortunate that this cannot be done on the ps3.

i'll be permanently cutting off my home internet on October this year, to save money. so i won't be able to re-download my digital purchases from PSN in the future. so that's why i asked. its nice to know that there are amazing homebrew tools that will take care of this problem better than sony ever thought of.

Data on X360 is "swapable" because it's file system is not encrypted, and contents is not tied to per unit keys. Also the reason why Sony doesn't allow You to restore i.e trophies or saves with CP is to forcing You to creating account, connecting to SEN for such cases and buying PlayStation+ service (and this also forcing on You to keep newest fw version installed).

Thankfully, jailbroken PS3 free You from this bullshit but fully freedom is only on CFW.
