PS2 Does the latest OPL have stable results with Forbidden Siren 2?

Hi,

I recently started using my fat NTSC PS2 which has an older OPL called BDM4. I gave Forbidden Siren 2 (PAL version of Siren 2) a shot with an MX4SIO/MC2ISO and it is prone to random crashes outside of gameplay. It might freeze when inside a menu, or in-between cutscenes, or after completing a stage, etc. Thus I've been slowly progressing through the game when it doesn't decide to get stuck on the save menu.

I was curious if anyone has had an opportunity to try out Forbidden Siren 2 on the latest OPL? Is it still plagued with random crashes? I checked some of the compatibility lists out there but those that have tested the game are from many years ago.

I have this game here but It's installed in my internal hard driver. It is a Fat model SCPH 39000 and I don't remember to have problem with this game.

I will tell for you. Leave a mensage here when you see this one. It will help me remember to answer you.

In case this info is needed, my PS2 is a fat SCPH-50010. I'm using a previous OPL (v1.2.0-Beta-1917-7d786b) which features BDM4.

Are the console's and game's regions determining factors in all of this?

In my opinion "MX4SIO" is in its early stages, I recommend that those games that do not work for you try them with another loading method.

MX4SIO got many updates in the PS2SDK as well as OPL (and other apps), so I suggest you to update to the newest official OPL-Beta and try playing the game via that.
If that doesn't fix it, try compatibility-modes.

Is there actually a way to update MX4SIO and MC2ISO adapters? I have the latter. As for the latest OPL, I'll install it on another memory card in case I want to revert back to my old one.

I recommend you use the OPL v1.1.0 stable version. When I tested this game I used this version. It's important to say that this version is the official stable release not beta.

No, the adapters are simply adapters BUT the software utilizing it CAN be upgraded and got a LOT of compatibility- as well as performance upgrades THX to @qnox32!

Contrary to the person above, I definitely suggest you to use the newest official OPL-Beta, because in regard to MX4SIO, OPL 1.1.0 "stable" has WAY more bugs than the newer Betas! The faulty SIO2-Hooking is/was one of the main-issues.

Yep, you are right. I did this tests using my internal hard drive but he is using MX4SIO. So, if you are have problems you should upgrade to newest official-OPL once you are using this way to run the games.

Look, I recommend you to check your iso too. Maybe, It's could be the problem! If the you sd card is fat32 formatted, there is a high possible because I don't know if have compatible to run another type of format, you should take careful with the .iso size(can't be +4gb in your Sdcard). You need to do the splitting in this case.

Finally found the time to switch to the latest beta version (v1.2.0-Beta-2048-17efb4), and I was able to have a play session that lasted FAR longer than any previous ones before the game froze. This latest crash occurred in the middle of a cutscene, unlike previous crashes which occurred during loading times (when the screen was pitch black between cutscenes and gameplay, or when accessing the red menu).

Still, it is a MASSIVE improvement. Whenever new beta versions are released, do you know the link where I might find them? I honestly can't remember the forum post where I got ahold of this current one, and so far my searches lead me to the official ones instead.

The reason why the game keeps freezing is related to the frame rate. If you force the game into NTSC region, the game freezes. You can play as Pal without any problems. Any version of OPL has nothing to do with the game freezing. The same freezing problem occurs with the PCSX2 emulator. Unfortunately there is no NTSC/US version of siren 2. There is only NTSC/JAP version and there is no English localization. So we have to play 25 frames per second as pal.
