Hello all, I am very new to PS3 'tinkering', in fact I am pretty much new to the whole PS3 world, having had my first one only for a few months so far... so please forgive my extreme ignorance, as I have troubles even with the jargon
I cut to the chase and post my first and simple question here, as per the title, so that you can stop reading the rest of my post if you want: does the new HEN method work on PHAT PS3?
-----
Now if you want some background information to understand why I would like to use HEN when I can instead just go with a CFW (besides being ignorant, that is), here it is
- I have a 'PHAT' PS3 console of the CECH-Lxx series (NOR, PAL, 80Gb)
- I have OFW already updated to 4.84
- the only thing I want to do with it, that I can't with OFW, is install and play the awesome customs for Rock Band 3 created by the C3 community
- I already have the Rock Band 3 game as a BluRay disc
- because of the previous points, I believe I only ever need FTP capabilities on my PS3, and nothing else (I am not interested in running games other than those I have on discs)
- I don't use PSN for anything. In fact, I wouldn't even connect to the internet at all if it wasn't for syncing the PS3 clock (the battery of which has run out, so it resets to 0 every time we boot) and occasionally updating games
In the past two months (yeah, I am that slow...) I've been reading these forums in order to understand how can I get FTP capabilities in the simplest way, and with the minimum chance of bricking my only PS3. I have read about CFW and HAN, and now also about HEN.
I understand that installing a full CFW will give me a lot more than HAN/HEN can do, but all I really need is FTP. If I understand right, both CFW and HEN enable to install homebrew software such as MultiMAN, which will cover all my needs. HAN alone doesn't offer that possibility, but would still allow me to fulfill my purpose by using much longer and more complicated methods (no need to get lengthy here, but other people have been using HAN for the same purpose as mine).
The main reason I would like to avoid CFW is that it has a higher chance of bricking, and since I am an absolute beginner I am afraid to use it.
Another reason is that I have kids at home, so I largely prefer the solution which meets my minimum requirements. Any additional functionality that my kids might accidentally trigger is a danger
In fact, I am thinking about eventually going offline forever so that we won't accidentally update to OFW 4.85 one day.
Because of all this, the new HEN method sounds like the perfect solution for me... if only it works on old PHAT consoles! The main HEN threads only mention (Super)Slims, and that's understandable since it is those newer consoles which previously could not run homebrew, and now benefits most from HEN.
Thanks for helping!
