PS3 Downgrading from 4.85 CFW to 2.80 OFW?

huh? ECDSA? wasn't ECDSA >3.56?

he just wants to see the optical firmware changes I think

I meant, because of broken ECDSA, if you repack UPL.pkg with higher image / version strings then you can just downgrade from OFW 3.55 to OFW 2.80 without FSM.
 
I started from firmware 4.90 on a PlayStation 3 CECHC04.
I wanted to take it to a lower firmware that is less than 3.00 because my model allows it.
I managed, through online searches done several days ago, to bring it to 3.55 Rebug CFW and I read that from here I can install any FW I want...

Unfortunately, I can't take advantage of this feature because it keeps showing me the usual installation errors.

I'll try with FSM but if I can't I'm afraid I'll have to accept it and give it up…

You need to install from recovery menu, not from XMB level (of course QA is mandatory). I don't know why. ;p I did this with 3.55.4 Rebug and OFW 3.16.

I don't think it will let you do it over XMB since you got a system with NAND flash. Try recovery mode.

FYI. the lowest I made with my CECH-E01 was 0.95 DEX via FSM. I went straight from 4.84 to 0.95 (which isn't recommended).

Tried what exactly? If You will not be precise, You will not gain proper feedback.

What is Your minimal fw which You can install on it and what fw You trying to install? What exactly is Your current firmware (version + name)?

I apologize for explaining myself wrongly...
I have my PS3 Fat with 3.55 CFW Rebug and I would like, especially for nostalgic reasons, to downgrade to a version lower than 3.00.
Unfortunately, by preparing the USB stick for the update and starting the installation on the PS3, it shows me the errors mentioned above..

From that version I could upgrade it to version 1.XX or one to my liking!
What were your proceedings to make this happen?
 
But started from XMB or from recovery? That's difference...

If Your factory minimal version is higher that the one You try to install, on QA flagged console, You could get corrupted file message.

FSM disable some additional checks so think twice what You doing. Take in mind that You will not escape it from fw above 3.55

The version of my PS3 is CECH04.
I did the verification and there minimum installable version is 1.00

I tried to install the update from both XMB and Recovery. From XMB it copies the update up to 60% and then shows the error... from recovery instead it shows it to me right away.

I apologize and correct the version of my PS3 for writing error: It's a CECHC04

You will need to install a CFW based on 3.55 first, then QA flag it again then install 2.80.
 
Thank you all for helping me! I finally managed to update to 2.80!
I installed 3.55 Rogero Downgrader and I installed 2.80 via Recovery and all good!
