DualShock 3 battery life mod

To anyone whom may have wondered it is possible to connect 2 ds3 battery cells in parallel and have it function/charge justas I would normally. I did this a few months back(6 months or so), have been using it and have charged it with the ps3 as it were any other controller. The only difference being the battery lasts a lot longer before you need to charge it, now that being said. I accept no responsibility for anyone fudging up their paddles, shocking themselves, setting fires, world domination or otherwise.

This is what I did,
1. Verify both cells are in good health and fully charged(I cannot emphasize this enough, both cells must be in good health AND both be fully charged!)
2. Strip some of each wire on both cells(BECAREFUL NOT TO SHORT THE LEADS OF EACH CELL!! Doing so may result in sparks, degredation of the cell health and CELL RUPTURE/EXPLOSION is a very real possibility here.)
3. leaving one or both plug ends intact, connect each cell together, positive to positive, negative to negative then insulate them both.
4. Modify the controller housing to accept the wider cell. What i did here was drill a small hole to pass the wires through then using hot glue affixed the cells to the underside of the controller.
5. Reassemble and test for functionality. If you did it right you'll have both hands and your house/apartment intact and have a dualshock 3 controller with near double the battery life.

What this mod has to offer, eh not much other than longer lasting between charges. This discovery was the result of having a few broken ds3 controllers that were given to me with viable and healthy cells and I got curious and as it were started looking around at parallel cell arrangements and the possibility of doing this without burning components out on the board or drawing too much current during charging. I would not recommend doing this with more than 2 cells, keep in mind parallel is the key here putting them in series is a very very bad idea as you would double the voltage not the capacity. I've seen online where people have used 18650 lithium cells but I don't know about this as the 18650 cells can pump out 20+ amps and possibly would burn out ics on the controller board due to them not being built for these types of cells and their output amperage.

DO NOT use 18650 Li batteries in the DS3. These are used in laptop battery packs and Vaping Mods and would be stupid and dangerous to use in this way. These batteries are designed for high draw amp and wattage.

DS3 battery is just a Li battery > find the same battery online but with a higher MAH [milly amp hour] than the one currently in the DS3 and it will last longer.

Also to note 18650's only push out 20amps max, not over.

Right I knew 18650s were a bad idea I've seen online where some people did it but I highly recommend against it. Which is why I did the 2 ds3 cells in parallel even though I've got an abundance of 18650s lying around, I use those as vape mod cells and 3 AAA cheap flashlights I drive those with 18650s as well, using an external charger, it works very well for that application but again I highly recommend against powering dual shock 3 controllers with them as they were not designed for that type of cell and it would most likely fry your controller board.
