PS3 DualShock 3 turns itself off while playing

My DS3 will turn itself off while playing games and i have no idea what causes it. I'd really appreciate a solution for this problem as DS3s are both rare and expensive.

It's one of the A model controllers, the ones with the plastic shell holding the smaller circuit board and rumble packs. It might not match the serial number in the back because i have swapped the internals around as i broke stuff during the console's life. I can say the analog sticks are not the original ones, but they are the same as i have in a different controller that does not have this issue.

The issue itself is the controller simply turning off entirely, seemingly at random, while playing games. This happens on the PS3 or on my laptop though in the laptop it pairs back on instantly (connected via USB always). It happens via bluetooth or USB connection. The issue is random but it's constant, it will happen several times in the span of an hour. Only happens if the controller is in active use.

I am desperate for a solution for this, please...

My first guess was a bad battery but since you mentioned that it turns off even while its connected using a USB cable, it might be the switch off button that is under pressure and ready to activate cuz of a bad reassemble of the controller.
On the upper right corner of the MOBO, there is a little onboard push button, which is protected with a rubber thing. See if you have correctly placed the rubber on top of it.
You can check this by testing the switch itself without the need of another teardown. There's a little hole at the back of the controller. Use a needle (for example, the one that you use for ejecting your Sim card) and push it to see if the button moves freely down like normal. It should not feel like a tuch button.

Are you talking about the reset button? I seriously doubt that's it. I took this controller apart several times and when i press the button it's solid, i need to exert pressure with a toothpick for it to click. It doe snot seem loose at all.

One thing i forgot to mention: When used on the PS3 some times the controller will turn itself off but the console will not register as it being off,meaning the games don''t pause and tell you yo plug the controller. They will keep running as normal but lights on the controller are all off and of course no input is registered. Some times this will happen and it will take the console 30 seconds or more to register the controller as off.

Yeah. The reset button.
I've repaired too many DS3s before, never saw such malfunctioning. I personally consider such a complicated thing as not repairable.
Sorry I couldn't help anymore. Hope someone more experienced comes and helps you fix it. But I say don't waste more time on it.
