PS3 DVD ISO Playback not working on External

Forum Noob
Please pardon me if I'm posting in the wrong area / already asked / etc. I'm fairly new to using forums.
I have been using PS3 CFW for quite some time though, (>4.3 Era).

I found an old phat ps3, and it had a low enough firmware to JB at 4.82 Exploit.
Currently on 4.84.2 Rex Latest atm.

I've tried using MultiMan, ManaGunz, IrisMan, & Web-Man Mod to load a DVD ISO for playback externally, and no success.

Movian, however, works on 'some' titles. On the ones that don't, the menu will keep going after a selection has been made.

ManaGunz & WMM does not recognize the DVDISO folder externally.

WMM doesn't seem to have the PrepNTFS application anymore? My DVDISO nor PS3ISO Folders do not get recognized.

I really want to be able to turn my DVD collection into a single hard drive, and watch them through my PS3.

TL;DR I want to play DVDISOs natively & externally, but no success on 4.84.2 REX

In managunz global settings there is an option to "configure backup paths"
Are the paths where managunz is going to scan for games, by default managunz have this paths enabled:
GAMEZ
GAMES
PS3ISO
PS2ISO
PSXISO
PSPISO
data
video

So... try to copy your videos ISO's to dev_hdd0/video (create the folder manually incase doesnt exists in your PS3)
Or... create a folder with a custom name you like (as example dev_hdd0/MYVIDEOS ...or... dev_hdd0/VIDEOISO), copy your videos there, and add the path name to managunz settings

Edit:
In managunz v1.35 or below... after adding or renaming one of the paths is needed to reboot managunz to re-scan the paths contents, there are 2 ways to do it:
1) exit managunz, and enter managunz again
2) Press L3+R3 sticks

prepNTFS has long since been integrated into webMAN MOD - not sure exactly when, but you no longer need to run it to get NTFS support. I have a few DVDs ripped as ISO format, and they're on the NTFS external partition of my USB drive in the DVDISO folder on the root of the drive. Hope this helps.

Thanks very much for the response!

@sandungas I did try your instruction, and changed settings in MG to Grid, then checked the backup paths, and it works! but I can't seem to get it working externally

@Coldheart2236 I do have them saved to a DVDISO folder on my external, and it does show, but there is an error loading it with WMM, and multiman/Irisman shows it as well, but neither show the disc after their respective mount operations. However, if I open another application, it shows a disc without any info, just dashes (really strange)

Would any of this be affected if my NTFS Drive is compression enabled?

to add on to this, I restored the PS3 this morning (Full Reset), and then installed the CFW twice as is recommended (4.84.2 Rebug over 4.82 Rebug from CFW Exploit). Afterwards, I did a full install of WMM (with L1), and all the Backup Managers.

to re-iterate as well, the Movian application works well, but only with some discs (infinite menu loop otherwise).

[[edit]] It was compressing the drive. Both of your solutions work great! Thanks again

Are your disc decrypted? It can dump the DVD disc but a third party app is needed to decrypt the ISO before the PS3 can successfully launch the ISO.

All ISOs were decrypted with DVD Decrypter and PassKey Lite from DVDFab prior to copying on the external.

Thanks!

DVD Decrypter, that's a blast from the past for sure. Speaking of which, I use DVD Shrink to rip some of my DVD collection so you could try that even though it's not had an update since 2004-5 lol it's still worked fine with plenty of fairly recent DVD releases. Though generally what I've been doing lately is ripping DVDs in folder format (with DVD Shrink) and then converting the VOB files into MP4 with Handbrake. :)

I've been thinking of using Handbrake to compress the size more, but it doesn't seem that anything will preserve the menus along with the main titles.

Ideally, I would use the x265 codec to compress them super-efficiently, and then store them into a single container format

But the only 'seemingly' possible solution I've found was DVDRat, and that is super out-dated

To preserve menus and such, so it's interactive like an actual DVD, you're probably best off using ISO format. DVD Shrink can compress to 4.7GB (equivalent to a single layer DVD) and it also has custom settings but that would come with a loss to quality I'm sure.

Movian supports more codecs than the PS3 does natively, so for example if you used the MKV container you could have your DVD titles backed up in a fairly efficient way, but again I think the only reliable way to retain titles and the feel of a retail disc would be to use ISO format.
