*** MODERATOR NOTICE*** This is an experiment. It can be risky for your console.

Hey guys, I came across something cool! It seems like we can "install" any firmware from 0.91 up to 1.82 on any CFW-patched system. :)

You can install any CEX/DEX/AVTOOL/DECR firmware on top of any CFW. Credits to Audio X Production for this discovery!

Installation process, just unpack any firmware version below 1.82 and replace the files in dev_blind and restart

GOOD NEWS
It still can acess Recovery mode since CoreOS is still updated.

DO IT AT YOU OWN RISK, any problems you can still access recovery mode to update the firmware as the CoreOS is untouched.

The sad part is that there's no homebrew or custom plugin that provides an FTP service with access to dev_flash. It would be amazing for experimenting with these firmwares.

Unfortunately, RPCS3 can't boot these firmwares for modding or research purposes.

@aldostools, @Evilnat, @DeViL303, do you know of anything that could enable access to dev_flash and ftp?

ok... so you're just updating your dev_flash while keeping the same CoreOS... and what are you trying to do after that point when VSH isn't bootable and you're left with recovery mode?

Nothing, because it booted lol

I'm on 1.01

I'm running it on a CECH 25XXX

MAKE SURE TO SET YOUR SYSTEM TO ENGLISH (or a supported language), otherwise it will ask you to format the system and then boot in recovery mode.

I forgot to say that this is a pretty neat discovery. I'm not too surprised though, because afaik, you can actually delete all of dev_blind and still recover, at least with NOR consoles. This could be risky for NAND. They're more sensitive to abnormal files in the flash, so I'd definitely be careful with one of those. Even simple mods can brick a NAND console if something is wrong with them or so I've heard. I don't know why the recovery menu supposedly fails to work in this case.
