Hello everyone.
I have a CECHA01 model PS3 that still boots (I had the latest firmware on it), but the graphics card is dead. I even tried using the multiport to component adapter with no success at getting video from it. I understand that replacing the graphics card is not possible without replacing the entire motherboard, which would force me to erase my hard drive. I grew tired of these machines YLOD'ing on me so I finally bit the bullet, gave up on PS2 compatibility, and got a more reliable slim model.
I would still like to try and recover some data from the old PS3 hard drive that cannot be restored from PSN, but I was never able to back it up (every time I tried I got some kind of error, which I suspect is because I had a game that was larger than 4GB so it couldn't write to a FAT32 partition).I know there are tools that will let me access the files on the old PS3 hard drive but I need the EID root key to decrypt it. I am still able to boot my old PS3, but is there a way to extract the root key without being able to access video? I know it's a long shot, but I thought this would be the place to ask if there was.
Thanks for your help and suggestions.
