PS3 Extreme newbie here, help appreciated.

Hi! I recently came into possession of two, broken CECHA01 Phat PS3s and am wondering what some possible fixes for them are. I looked around for some information, and couldn't come to a solid conclusion, so I thought- why not ask directly?

The first console is a YLOD. I turn it on, the light is green for approximately 2.5 seconds, and it turns yellow, then red and beeps. The console was reasonably well taken care of, and had nothing visibly wrong with it. Owner told me it just stopped turning on one day.

The second console is a GLOD. I turn it on, I see the hard drive indicator blink for just a second at the start, and that's about it. The light stays green, and there's no display. I can, however, eject and insert disks. The console had absolutely NEVER been opened and was extremely dirty on the inside. After cleaning, the same thing happened.

Help would be massively appreciated.

try video rest on the second one. with the ps3 off, press and HOLD the power button. when you hear the second beep, let go.

I tried the video reset through AV, and it didn't work, unfortunately. However, I did manage to get it into safe mode ONCE. After that, it went back to having no signal. Guessing this is a sign of a faulty RSX?

if you get into safe mode again, try installing firmware using "system update".

I did that, and the absolute weirdest thing I've seen in my entire time of repairing this system happened.

I get it to the System Update, throw on an OFW 3.55 onto my USB drive, and it gets to 100%, and the display goes black. Nothing is on the screen. Then, it proceeds to YLOD. After trying to turn it on again, I was met with another instant YLOD. Then, I tried to turn it on once more and it just GLODs again. I repeatedly tried to get it into either the actual system or safe mode, and nothing happened.
