PS3 Fallout 3 (Standard with DLC) is better for mods than GoTY

Because with the GoTY version you can only normally use three mods unless you use the tool to combine/merge esp's.

With the normal version updated (1.61) with all DLC, you can copy mods (yes, more than three) into one of the DLC files' folders and they will load up and work. This method was the (only?) way to load mods with Skyrim before the homebrew MODS.EDAT was created (in 2018 I think).

Update. You can use five mods with this method on Fallout 3, any more and the game will have control issues.

It works for (normal, not Ultimate Edition) of New Vegas as well. But you still need at least one DLC installed.

I've got Fallout 3 standard with all of the DLC - would you care to share the mod packs you have been making? I would love to check them out. I didn't have any success getting the Elite Electronics Fallout 3 pack to work unfortunately.

I don't use any mod packs. I just copy over what I want to use.

Sadly though, my PS3 keeps shutting itself of with three beeps and a blinking red light. It's not overheating, because wMM can show temperature.

Did you ever happen to find a way to implement iron sights in Fallout 3? A lot of the iron sight mods I've found come with textures and meshes that don't jive well with the PS3 version, I was hoping there was a simpler solution out there maybe just changing the camera or something but I've not had much luck locating such a mod.

No. Because it won't read user-made BSA's.

Nah, you're better off merging esps. My ini has

DLC.ESP
VANILLA.ESP

And I keep the 3rd one free for esms or test files.

You're also probably wrong about BSAs, load your files "loosely" in folders. For example I made a bunch of voiced companions reusing audio from the game. The setup for my 'Brainclaw' is

\GAMES\Fallout 3 - Game of the Year Edition\PS3_GAME\USRDIR\DATA\SOUND\VOICE\DLC.ESP\ROBOTROBOBRAIN

I suspect a similar setup for MESHES and TEXTURES would work.
