PS3 Fat PS3 has issues with a 1TB HDD

I got a launch PS3 CECHA01 and i tried to use the 1TB HDD my PS4 pro came with and it seemed to work but if i do anything FTP related its a nightmare, Slow transfer speeds, constant disconnects. However it works perfectly fine with the old 500GB my launch PS4 came with. im very confused. It also wouldn't recognize my 480GB SSD either (kingston UV400) but my super slim worked 100% perfectly with both drives. any ideas? I am running REBUG 4.84.2 and i have Webman and Multiman as well as REBUG Toolbox all 3 gave FTP issues.

disconnects while running ftp is common if transferring a lot of small files. maybe try the openps3ftp. it's a plugin for cobra. its main purpose is ftp. ftp is given low priority with those other apps, since their focus is stability.

i tried that and it still had issues. i dont understand why it did it with the 1TB drive and not the old 500GB. i coppied over nearly 100GB earlier to the 500GB and never once dropped connection but the 1TB i had trouble copying 5gb ps2 isos'

A friend of mine has stuttering problems on some games (i.e. Tekken 6) FMVs (in both format) since he installed a new 1tb HDD. This same HDD is perfect on Ps2, but it seems that Ps3 can't perfectly handle HDDs beyond 750GB.

im thinking this one i have is just messed up or something, i tried to swap it with my xbox one x 1TB HDD and even after going through all the steps the xbox had issues with it too. im going to test it in my PS4 PRO again, i havent used it in a while so maybe it will give issues there too.

i have CECHC04 with tb WD Blue installed and i have zero problems. i had a hitachi hdd also 1tb in it and also no problem. Is not the hdd Failing? try connect the hdd to pc and read the smart info with hdd sentinel in what condition it is.

I'm talking about a year ago... My friend checked the HDD, it was (and still is) 100% perfect. The stuttering happened only with certain games FMVs (with the 250gb HDD they were perfect).

I think it depends on some other HDD specs too. You can find on the web other people having problems with 1tb HDD. A quite sure thing is that up to 500/750GB you're fine with every HDD.

The HDD is a Seagate Barracuda SATA III. He's using another one (same exact model) on Ps2. I have one of them on the og Xbox (and the 2tb version on Ps2). They're usually very compatible with consoles.

I can say you only this i have two fat,two slims and one superslim. I have 1 tb hdd in every one,(Wd blue,Hitachi,Samsung) without any issue.

The max HDD capacity for a PS3 fat system is 1.5 tb. 1.5 works perfectly and 2 TB is too big, this I have tested myself.

The HDD linked in the first post is the exact one I was talking about. It perfectly works with any console but Ps3 (actually it works well on Ps3 too. Just some stutter on certain game's FMVs).
well as I said there, it works just fine, it will just have a stuttering issue, depending on the game you will either have no issue at all, minor issue or worst, terrible experience in-game. As I said new 1tb drives works just fine on ps3 as is, but if you want the game to work flawlessly on all games then you better look for a drive that is not AF/4K
