FB Neo RL Plus

PS3 FB Neo RL Plus v2.30

This new version is definitely very nice. Thanks!
However I experience that when browsing through my more than 3000 roms by using L2 and R2 the whole Playstation suddenly freezes and the only way to reboot is to hold down the power button on the PS3 for some seconds.
Am I the only one experiencing that?
My PS3 is a super slim model with Hybrid fimware 4.87.

A new release is out.
It's a frontend update:
  • Frontend rewritten almost from scratch and compiled with the current psl1ght (gcc v7.2)
  • Approach to 2D graphics Frontend using RSX 3D graphics capabilities
  • Frontend more responsive
  • Added 570p and 480p Frontend resolutions
  • Used a new Font library BDF/FNT
You can install it on previous installation.
With 480p and 576p resolutions now it should work correctly on old analogic TV.
As soon as possible i'll update cores and i'll add a new one.

See You Space Cowboy...
Great work! Do you think it would be possible to address any of these issues?
Some improvements to the UI would certainly be welcome. Bigger font, larger spacing between lines, and probably some delay before scrolling. Maybe it's just me, but currntly pressing down for just a tad too long sends the list scrolling almost instantly, so you have to be really quick to go one game down. (all of this is based on 2.12 version, haven't tried 2.13 so far).
And yes, great job and thanks for keeping the scene alive!
  • Make the font in game list bigger (closer to the size in the main menu) and place the items on the list a little further apart
  • Add a small delay before the list starts scrolling after you press up or down (so it would be easier to go through the list one-by-one)
Thanks!

I am thinking to differentiate the d-pad buttons scroll from the left-analog stick scroll. The first one click - one scroll and the second current scroll (at full speed).

I just put a few roms in my hdd0 ROMS folder, some like Street Fighter Alpha 3 and X-Men CoTA don't show up anywhere and Garou MotW doesn't start just a black screen, I've made sure to put the neogeo.zip in the same folder too, In the Hunt works fine, the rest I didn't test yet.

I've heard about rom syncing or whatever, is there something that I'm missing? I know that at least X-Men CoTA rom is fine as I could start it with MAME 2003 in retroarch, Garou I couldn't, tried both FB Neo and MAME 2003/plus cores so I'm assuming maybe something wrong with the rom.

Neo Geo CD:
  • Put neocdz.zip (BIOS file) in system folder [ /dev_hdd0/game/FBNE00123/USRDIR/cores/system ];
  • CD images must be in single bin/cue (redump) format or ccd/sub/img (trurip) format. If you have a game in multiple bin/cue format you need to reformat it into one bin file, for examples using AnyBurn program (convert image file->File image CDRWin .BIN/.CUE as destination image file). FBNeo does not currently support CHD format;
  • Follow strictly file names nomenclature (link);
  • Put neo geo CD images in a folder named neocd (case unsensitive);
  • Select neocd folder as one of 12 games folders in the FB NEo RL Plus Options or put it inside a previous games folder (so as subfolder) already selected (from v2.12) and make a new scan folders;

Example 1, Rally Case game:
files trally.bin and trally.cue, where trally.cue contains:
Code:
FILE "trally.bin" BINARY
TRACK 01 MODE1/2352
INDEX 01 00:00:00
TRACK 02 AUDIO
INDEX 00 00:37:67
INDEX 01 00:40:67
TRACK 03 AUDIO
INDEX 01 01:08:67
TRACK 04 AUDIO
INDEX 01 02:19:07
TRACK 05 AUDIO
INDEX 01 03:20:23
TRACK 06 AUDIO
INDEX 01 03:33:23
TRACK 07 AUDIO
INDEX 01 04:40:38
TRACK 08 AUDIO
INDEX 01 04:54:38
TRACK 09 AUDIO
INDEX 01 05:17:38
TRACK 10 AUDIO
INDEX 01 05:32:39
TRACK 11 AUDIO
INDEX 01 10:05:40
TRACK 12 AUDIO
INDEX 01 14:01:70
TRACK 13 AUDIO
INDEX 01 17:55:70
TRACK 14 AUDIO
INDEX 01 21:16:70
TRACK 15 AUDIO
INDEX 01 24:58:70
TRACK 16 AUDIO
INDEX 01 28:19:25
where the first row shows how it is not enough to just change the name of files.

Example 2, Project Neon - The Caravan Demo game:
download zip file from official page, extract cd.bin and cd.cue, rename them in neon.bin and neon.cue, edit neon.cue as:
Code:
FILE "neon.bin" BINARY
TRACK 01 MODE1/2352
INDEX 01 00:00:00
put neon.bin and neon.cue in neocd folder, make a new scan folers..... play demo.

Hey, someone can use the FBNeoRLPlus emulator ??

I have a problem with the FBA 2.20 emulator, my console is ps3 slim soft Evilant 4.87.
The problem concerns running games from the following systems:
capcom Misc
CPS-II
CPS-III
galaxian
poly game Master (PGM)
Psikyo
Sega-filtered 94
When I run any game from these systems, my console freezes and a black screen appears.
I can't do anything, I have to restart the system. On other systems available in FBA, all games work properly.
Please help.

I've heard freezing with some CPS and neogeo games is somewhat common, not sure how common, I've just started testing and x-men vs street fighter froze my console:frown new:

Could you check files and CRCs:

upload_2021-4-18_20-55-57.png

They all match but I don't have a xmvsf.key in my archive and there's two extra files at the end xvsex.03f and xvsex.04f with the same CRC of 75660AAC.

Using correct rom set it will work.
But FBNeo core should notify the incorrect files inside rom set and not to go into guru meditation.... i have to investigate where is this issue (Retroarch layer or fbneo core).

Heya, I was wondering if this is normal or it's just me. But is FB neo a bit blurry? I also noticed a few hitches when I ran street fighter 3: second impact. I compared it with FinalBurn Alpha 2012 on retroarch, and strangely, it's alot sharper with no hitches at all. I really wanted to use this front end because it looks really good and it's way easier to present what games are being shown. Is there even a way to change which core it uses or is it locked to FB neo?

Tried it latest version today...great improvement!!! Menu is more responsible, shaders works and overlays too. Some issues and suggestions:

sfiii3 and garou crashes to xmb or freezes ps3 when overlays are enabled. Other neogeo and cps3 games works perfectly;

System32 still uses mame to emulate, however latest FBNeo can handle it (maybe better than mame in PS3);

prehistoric hisle 1930 still had problems since older FBA core: game colors are wrong ( blue predominant). In PC, works perfectly.

Hope it helps.
Thanks for your efforts!!

About graphic rendering, both cores are the same. I bet in your Retroarch/FBalpha12 settings there is a filter/shader setted. Make the same thing with fbneo core using in-game menu(L3+R3).

In the next release (soon) of FBNeo RL Plus there will be a new core (mGBA) and FBNeo core updated with also my fixes about some games that was affected by big endian issues. I'm testing prehistoric hisle 1930 if it has same issue.

Thanks! Managed to crackdown on what it was. For some reason bilinear filtering was on under video. Though the only thing that remains is the audio slowdown. I kept going back and forth between retroarch fbalpha and fbneorl+ but couldn't find any differences in the configs when it came to audio.

Same ROM/Game?
