PS2 First time user/modder

Hi guys,

I'm quite new to this forum, I was pointed here by a friend as I had some questions about modding the PS2. Finally I feel like I came to the right place. Please bear with me and some really basic questions, as I'm not technically minded but always willing to learn.

I'm about to pull the trigger on a used PS2 and I'd like to know how easy it would be to mod. The model is SCPH7500x and was manufactured in the fourth quarter of 2005 (if I understand 5D correctly).

With Slim models, will I still need to purchase the network adapter? I plan to use a reclaimed SATA HDD but I need to get an IDE adapter for it I believe.

Also, is there any way of getting Homebrew onto the PS2 without a PC? I'm a blasted mac user.

If these questions are completely redundant and have been answered in depth elsewhere, I'd be grateful for a link to the relevant posts.

Anyhow, thanks for reading and helping me out in advance.

Hi.

There is no additional NA (Network Adaptor) for SCPH-750XX or any other SLIM model,
because Network port is embedded into them:

Network adaptor was an addon for fat consoles (up to SCPH-500XX):

You will not connect SATA or PATA HDD directly into SCPH-750XX,
because these consoles do not have any IDE\SATA interface.

For your journey with PS2 homebrew I suggest to start it with installing FMCB on memory card (MC).
Here is noobie package:

Here is how to install FMCB (point mouse on installation to extend):

So, I'll be able to go ahead and purchase this PS2 for a decent price. As I don't have access to a PC, it would be also OK to just buy a preformatted 8mb card with FreeMcBoot installed on it right?

Compatability is a big question if you plan on storing any backups on a USB HDD (only option for slim as you don't have a PC for SMB network sharing, possibly a SD to mem card adapter but that is being worked on now and isn't available for purchase)

What are your plans for homebrew?
