PS2 FMCB cant boot, black screen no sound

I got the playstation 2 fat silver model SCPH-50004 PAL. One friend gave me his official memory card, with FMCB in it, which he uses regurarly without a problem. When I put it in my PS2, I get no sound and a black screen of my PS2 output. But when I power it on without this memory card, it boots normally. Any help is greatly appreciated.

EDIT: I opened it up and it does not have a modchip or any hardmod

What model of PS2 you friend have?
What version of FMCB you have?

My friend has both one of the Slim Versions that are compatible with FMCB and also one fat PS2, an earlier model than mine.

Different console revisions might have different OSD update versions.
So e.g. normal installation of FMCB will work on SCPH-77004,
but if you put this memory card in SCPH-39003 it may not work.
Normal installation might also work with SCPH-70004 (PAL),
but if you put this MC into SCPH-77001 (NTSC) it may not work.

That is why I suggested to make Multi-install,
because this installation should work on all consoles despite of a region, revision, etc.

BTW please use console revisions (e.g. SCPH-50004) instead of earlier FAT or FMCB compatible SLIM.

This also happened to me. Every version before v1.966 (from 2019/01/07) worked but now it doesn't right when they added the option to turn of and restart the console that definitely broke something even the versions after this one still don't work. The feature to restart and turn off works but it can't load any elf nor open the configurator.

If starts booting the very moment you removed the memory card, it was likely unable to decrypt the update for some reason.
If FMCB 1.8b is installed, it was only made to work within the same region - so would your friend's PS2 be from the same region? Even if he has another PAL console, it might not necessarily have the same MagicGate region.
The region can be somewhat determined with the last 2 digits of the PS2's model. Since you have a SCPH-50004, it is an European model.

The binaries for FMCB 1.8c and later are free from regional restrictions, as long as the right files are installed (depends on model and region).

You seem to have a different issue from the OP. It sounds like you have a modchip installed.
