PS3 Frankenstein 40nm CECHB - PS2 issues

Hi all,

Seen a handful of people mentioning they're unable to play PS2 games on hardware BC consoles - I have a 40nm Frankenstein CECHB that has just started having problems with PS2 games.

It's not quite the same as what I've seen elsewhere. It doesn't completely freeze the system, nor do I get a black screen - instead the games do seem to launch and play the audio but with many graphical anomalies/artifacts.

I presume the EE/GS chip is dying, but I've also seen suggestions that it might be a trace under the RSX or a faulty capacitor.

I'm based in the UK so I've contacted Rarethingz to see what might be done to resolve this - he's been excellent in my experience. Can keep you posted on what happens - I don't have anywhere near enough experience to attempt a fix like that myself!

A short video of the issue is below for anyone interested:

It's an interesting one because it seems like the majority of the discussion around CECHA/B hardware issues is on the obvious RSX and capacitor faults, so I wonder how widespread or likely issues on the PS2 side is.

PS3 and PS1 are unaffected (as are software emulated PS2 games) and seems to work as normal so I think the issue must be specifically with some hardware responsible for the BC.
