PS3 Frankenstein PHAT PS3: CECHA with 40nm RSX

Bought a refurbished CECHA00 with 40nm RSX in decent price.
It has one problem though, when I turn it off, it beep 3 times and give me A0901001, only when I turn it off, it hasn't shut down by itself yet.

In about 1/6 chance it can shut down naturally.

should I be worried of it and send the console back to seller who offer paid service, ask him to change capacitor of Cell? Seller said he had swapped all the NEC TOKIN with tantilizers but I haven't been able to open the console to confirm it by myself.

Here's the latest error log, it used to come with A0802120*10. BTW is there a way to correct the timestamp?

I have cecha00 with 40nm too. It has tokins, every boot it goes to ylod:1002+2120 in errlog. Ill try to undervolt rsx later. Just for science

I think 1002 means it's RSX Tokin failure? 1001 could mean more than just tokin failure though.

How did u get that 40nm CECHA00? I'm curious
I bought 2 random cecha00 from japan. One had glod, after hdmi reset it is 40nm fully working cecha00 for $35. Second one has ylod. After disassembly I found 40 sticker on usb. I checked syscon logs. It looks like rsx tokins swap will fix it

Tell him to check fuses, especially F6302. If fuse is blown, check the mlcc caps in that surrounding area.
Could you elaborate why I should pay attention to them?

And one thing I found interesting is that it seems like if I turn the console off when Cell is relatively hot (Around 72C), it tends to shut down with no problem.

1001 can be nothing more than improper shutdown . It's the 10x 2120 codes that im worried about. When I see those, it's usually a blown fuse (f6302) and the mlcc caps on top of board near rsx. Fuses are an easy thing to check. They'll also help you narrow down the issue. If you're lucky it's a blown fuse...

Another question is that could I just leave the 40nm console fan control as syscon? Or maybe I can raise the bar of webman mod a little higher (70C instead of 68C for example)

I tested the console with TLoU, fan kicks in when Cell hit 72 degree or so, the highest Cell got was 75 degree, and the fan speed holds at 29~30%

I can't undervolt swapped 40nm rsx. Even with 0.95V I get 3003 or 3004 error((( is it a feature of new syscon controller?

Should I worry about Cell degree/heat/thermal or just leave it handled by syscon?

I must have missed the part where you mentioned this console turns on. It's probably not a fuse. You can swap tokens if you want, I doubt it will fix your issue. May want to try a different hard drive and bluray drive. Make sure replacement Blu-ray drive is properly married with root key. I usually let syscon handle the fan curve. You don't need to worry about the cell as much, IBM did a good job making that thing.

Me too ;)

I have tried to install different 1TB hard drive and the result is same. Blu-ray drive....I have no idea, current one is working with no issue though.

Thanks I'll just leave syscon handle it.

BTW, I mentioned "one thing I found interesting is that it seems like if I turn the console off when Cell is relatively hot (Around 72C), it tends to shut down with no problem."
But I haven't tested if it's true.

I test it, if I turn the console off when CELL is hotter than 70C, it wont beep during the shutdown.
Since CELL easily climbs up to 75C before fan speed kicks in (in XMB idle), I guess I'll just stick to the syscon then.

Usually fan speed would stay at 28% with CELL being 72C, RSX is mid-50C level.

Did you undervolt ps3? After undervolting I have the same problem((( 1001 error on shutdown. Ill try to increase cell voltage by one step

I dunno, maybe the seller did.....

will it be properly shutdown if the cell temp is higher enough like I said?

Here's one problem, let's say if the problem can be solved with better capacitors swapped in CELL side. And if I just keep using the console as it is for now (lower CELL temp shutdown leads to A0901001), will it be harmful to CELL?

I've encountered A0901001 a bunch when using a DEX kernel + webman when shutting down during a strenuous game on a console with healthy tokins, its unlikely yours is running a DEX kernel but just putting it out there. It may be another software gremlin but this is wishful thinking and likely not the issue

If you're certain the tokins have been properly replaced then it could be physical damage to the CELL's BGA, maybe try applying pressure to the CELL while shutting the console off? It very well could've been knocked around in shipping or had an eraser mod done by the seller to cover up the console potentially needing a delid. The intermittent'ness of this issue makes me think BGA but you should try the general troubleshooting steps and probably try putting in a new hard drive before fully opening the console to completely rule out software and HDD gremlins

Hopefully seller lied to me and didn't replace the Tokin ; (
I probably won't open it by myself.

I shared more info in the following reply, it is related to the temp of CELL. Not intermittent'ness
