Games that refuse to run as an ISO

Loathsome Dung Eater
so last night I got a gift for my girlfriend a game I have been wanting to play for a while. I got surprised with Shadows of the Damned so I promptly popped it in my PlayStation 3 and ripped it as an ISO file.

Upon attempting to Launch I saw the video signal change from 1080p to 720P but nothing after that. I was able to exit just fine so I thought I made a bad rip. So dumped it again in JB format this time and used genISO v2.0 (as 2.5 doesn't make a valid image for burning using the new feature made by @deank ) and FTP the file back over but same results. Weird so I play tested the disc and it works fine and then I tried just the folder format via mM to see if I had anymore luck.

Well the game ran fine from disc and as a JB folder. I didn't edit anything in mM or the file itself just chose the JB folder game so no BD mirror etc.

So has anyone else had this issue or know of other games like this? I think Dishonored was one but don't have the game to test.

It is almost impossible to find this game online (it is from 2010/2011 I think), but the easiest way to test is to use a debug stage2.bin file and see what is going on. There is no easier way unless I get a copy of the game.

try to create iso with ps3 iso rebuilder or 3k3y iso tools

@deank

Turok is one of those games that works only fine with either JB Format or ISO built by 3k3y's isotool with or without IRD.I couldn't figure out why

I assume the game that @atreyu187 mentioned has the same issue
Although I haven't tried that with the latest MAKEPS3ISO by @estwald

There are a few more games are like that.

I think Metal Gear Solid 4 also had a similar issue (I'm not 100% sure)
Almost all my games built with 3K3Y's isotool for that reason, just to avoid some trouble like that

also, I have the game [Shadows of the Damned-BLUS30653.iso], I'll get you some logs as soon as I try with debug stage2

FYI @atreyu187 @deank

Dishonored 2 had this issue as well I recall only being able to run from external using BD mirror which was an issue for me as I don't have or use external drives

Does Turok crash in game? I created my iso with Multiman and it loads fine as ISO with sman.sprx.

From what I remember, it used to go blacksreen without crashing, so I was able to exit out to XMB, I haven't tried that with ISO built by multiMAN.

About that Splinter Cell hd trilogy, it works fine if you leave it for 3 hours for installation which was how I got it worked

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I remember that i left it for like the whole night and nothing happened. Although i had a highly fragmented hdd. Gonna try it on a fresh hdd
i have that in my internal hdd as iso and no problems whatsoever. i even cracked dlc for it

I have Shadows of the Damned BLUS30653. It is on my external FAT32 HDD in folder format. But I just created ISO to internal with mmcm and it works fine. Forgot how awesome this game looks.
This was with my 25k slim on Playerkp420 4.81 Cobra 7.5 I have been testing, when I have time.

I also have Dishonored in folder format on external. I will try that one also.

EDIT - Just as I suspected, it played no problem from internal HDD as ISO. Now that I think about it, I don't think I have ever had a game not work as an ISO. Except when I did something wrong making the CFW. LOL. Most of my games are in folder format still though, and I don't really have time to play them much. When I do get some gaming in, it is usually on my PS4. I think I'm gonna play this SOTD for a bit.

Yeah, one of my friends also confirmed that it worked fine as ISO [genps3iso rip] I'm going to test it myself as well

@deank

I successfully loaded the game as in ISO built by GENPS3ISO v2.5 for now I don't think there's any need for you to look at this game

I don't know what the issue was for @atreyu187

Yeap, working fine here as well using webmanmod 1.47.00(+8) as internal ISO.
Tested against IRD and all files validated. Built ISO with PS3-ISO-Rebuilder 1.0.4.1. (using IRD)
Got an achievement for just pressing start, lol.

edit: @Joonie : Man, it must be cool where you live. My PS3 is idling at 79'C/66'C right now doing nothing....
Shame dynamic fan control is too broken to be usable on my CECHL... :'(

edit 2: @atreyu187 : Maybe the disc had issues reading?
Test it again IRD and I'll flick you a copy of any busted files (if any)

the only thing I can figure is the iso creation tools failed somehow or something to do with Windows 10. I'm almost home gonna test @Joonie and try the other tools if not I'm going to fire up my virtualbox but what I find weird is multi-man ripped the game fine as a jailbreak folder then I converted to ISO using it as well and it failed to load not quite sure what my issue is but it is a fun game this was back when he was a pretty good developer as I like this and Dante's Inferno being one of my all-time favorite PlayStation 3 games

Now that i remember, my STxT iso was generated on a Win10 pc, maybe that could be my issue. but like you've said, i've ripped the game from Multiman aswell.

Ok I found out the issue. It didn't play well together with webMAN MOD and sman if on Rebug using Rerbug mode and DEX/DEX. Switched from that to Rebug CEX/QA and all my images I made worked just fine. You can stay in Rebug DEX/DEX but you must choose SMAN or webMAN MOD at least with this game if you want to to use ISO over folder. Both enabled at once causes black screen but just one and either or webMAn or SMANand it works great.
