PS4 General Questions before purchase

Since the members on these forums have helped me A LOT with my current ps3 setup ( thx again guys ;-D )
and the prices for ps4s in my area have started to come down i wanted to ask a few questions before purchasing one of those puppies.

1) which model would you guys recommend?
(i would like to be able to use homebrew apps and make game backups just like i did with the ps3)
i saw that, like the ps3, the ps4 does come in different models. With the ps3 it was important that one
does not purchase the super slim version if one wants a complete jailbreak.
=> What is the ps4 situation in this regard?

2) can game backups be played from external drives like with the ps3?

and last but not least:
3) with all that cleared up, does anyone know a good tutorial for jailbreaking these models?
(i am terribly afraid of falling victim to some sort of malware bs :-/)


P.S.: i feel like i should purchase a "PRO" version for extra ... power? any thoughts on that?

1. pro or slim. since your P.S. note is wanting a Pro model. then go pro. if your looking for jailbreak, seek for a console that have firmware 7.02 or lower. finding a PS4 under 5.05 (which is the most stable jailbreak as of this post) is very hard, so your only choice is probably 6.72 or 7.02

2. yes, but it works very differently depending how you setup a USB external storage support on your PS4, there are 2 ways, the official way or the app2usb. if you use the official way of getting a external storage support on your PS4, that USB HDD will only be usable on PS4 not until you formatted it, otherwise app2usb will work on any USB drives that is exFat formatted.

3. go to youtube and look for mr.mario's tutorial how to make things work.
 
In case of PS3 it is not "Super Slim" issue if user want CFW but ALL models with new bootloader, which is half CECH-25xx and all newer.

In case of PS4, model doesn't matter but firmware version. Only old are exploitable (5.05 is most stable and 7.02 is the maximum if I'm not mistaken).

Preparing game backups on PS4 is pain in the ass and total waste of time for doing it.

so i can get any model with 5.05 <= firmware version <= 7.02? i wonder if i could ask about that in an electronics store...
i am pretty sure they wouldn't know :-/

@Berion is correct about it being a pita to make backups on the ps4. I have a tutorial on it. most things on the ps4 aren't necessarily hard, but tedious and time-consuming.

I'm still on 5.05 myself, because 6.72 is known for kernel panics (system suddenly shuts off when deploying the payload or in some rare occurrences in the middle of a game, and 7.02, while not having a lot of kernel panics, has a very low success rate (like 10%)). 5.05 is about 90-95% successful. however, it can still kernel panic. I've never seen any payload kernel panic but hen itself with that firmware. however, there have been a few times where turning on the system again later didn't work with the controller, so I had to use the sensor on the system itself. that was like after deploying the ftp payload about 15 times in one go (have to keep redeploying it if you go into system settings), which is what happens if you're trying to dump a bunch of themes.

speaking of which, themes and dlc are even more a pita to dump than games or patches, because you have to use ftp, create your own param.sfo, and build the pkg from scratch. with games and patches, you have the gengp4. speaking of which, in order to build patches, you need the base pkg (always), so keep a backup of all pkgs you install. if the pkg comes from a different dump, regardless of if it's the same system or account, it must be remarried with duxa repacker or it will error at the end of the install. and, if you want your legit saves to work, you need to inject the keystone (only a part of base pkg, not updates). that probably won't matter to you if you've never owned a ps4 before.
 
Does it not possible to just copy original packages, licenses and whole registry, making full format, restoring those files and plays? I have in mind of course the same console because I know it will not work on another. This whole decryption road is just horrible waste of time IMO.
 
I learned recently where the registry is located. it's located in the system_data partition. we were trying to figure out if you could change the x and o confirm button on temp. there's an editor for the registry by Oct0, but we're not sure if that option is in there. I haven't tested it. I don't know if just copying and pasting will work. my original account was banned from the ps3, so I made a new account. everything is as the way it was, except I lost all trophies. there's an app by darkprogrammer that unlocks trophies, but the video shows him unlocking all of them. I haven't tried it. I'd only like to unlock ones I did originally, but I don't remember which ones those were.
 
1. Pro should be your preference. And 5.05 should be the FW you need if you can find it. There are many unused consoles out there, you just need time and patience to find them. Some people packed up their consoles long ago and stopped using, Some people got them as birthday gifts and never even used. If you are lucky, you can find almost new consoles with box on old firmware. If you can't find 5.05, look for 6.72. I won't recommend 7.02 or anything higher.

2. I do not recommend old 1000 and 1100 series of fat PS4. They were known to have issues with HDMI port and encoder chips. Actually you should only prefer Pro model because original PS4 is under powered in many regards. PS4 Pro, you can also upgrade it with SSD as it has SATA 3 port.

3. Bottomline. Look for Pro model. If you want base PS4, look for 1200 series or later Slim model. Also try to get a deal of unused or very less used console preferably with original box. Also make sure that the DS4 is ORIGINAL, not some fake counterfeit. Check that BD drive is fully functional.

Main thing i recommend is try to get unused model with box and with warranty seal intact.

Edit - By the way, i forgot to mention. When looking for unused or less used consoles, you won't actually find 5.05 or 6.72 specifically. You may find them on lower FWs like on 3.xx, 4.xx or 6.xx etc. You can safely update them to next exploitable higher version.
