Hey all, I picked up an 80 GB fatty last weekend. Started playing Journey on it and the fan was so loud. Decided I'd give deliding a go.
After the delid, I'm sure I screwed it up. When I press the power button, I just get classic GLOD. No controller sync, no video/audio output.
If there's some hints as to what I have done please let me know. Sad to see this PS3 go
- Opened it up, pretty dusty, so any time I had dust I'd use a soft paint brush to remove it.
- Found that it had some water damage on the board near the USB ports and on the disk drive. Just a little rust. Also found it was gamestop refurbished.
- here's where I think I screwed up: When heating the board, I used the 320 *C setting like 1cm away from the board. It was only for at most 20 seconds but I was getting inpatient.
- Also I think I put on too much arctic silver on the heatsinks.
Also, when I originally re-assembled and turned on, I could not turn the console off without switching off the power supply. I attached the height of two american pennies to the underside of the aluminum heatsinks (bring up the RSX heatsink by about a mm) and also put one american penny on the top Mobo protector, under the RSX pressure plate/screw mechanism, in the center. After that, I was able to turn off and on with the power button. So maybe not all is lost? Or did I bake the RSX
