PS3 GTAV+Online source code leak

Now, as you may already know, Rockstar suffered a massive leak and the source code of GTAV and GTA Online is out in the wild (for the right price).

The main question of this topic is: IF (and this is a BIG IF) the source code is out, can it be used to restore basic GTA Online functionalities to the PS3 (and by extent, to XBOX 360 as well)?.

I'm asking this because of two reasons:
  1. I'm stuck with random events Chase Thieves Country 1 & 2. They are not popping up no matter when I go to the spawn points or with what character I use. I've tried everything, even modifiying my save file (against my will) and got nothing. The only thing that was suggested in old forum topics is to switch to Online, wait in there for 5 or 10 minutes, and then go back to story mode and then to the spawn points of the random events. But, GTA Online is down so can't confirm nor deny if it would fix the glitch.
  2. As the service is offline, I can't get the free exclusive Social Club items:
Social club gets you...

- Free Assault SMG. Available for free on the far right "Los Santos Gun Club" wall of Ammunation. Includes all attachments and skins, you just need to buy bullets. Great for early on in the game.

- An unlimited supply of free Eleghy RH-8 sports cars in your storage garages (actual garages not the ones at each characters house). A prompt will pop up saying "press right on the d-pad for special vehicles" and you can spawn as many as you like.

- Free exclusive hairstyles and facial hair for Trevor, Mike, and Franklin

What do you think?. Will it be possible to restore GTA Online service back to PS3?.

only if you had the the source code of the online server also.
besides, most likely these unofficial servers wouldn't be up for many days, everyone knows Rockst@r/T@ake two and knows how out of the box they are with this kind of stuff, they would definitely send a full bus from lawyers to court against those responsible for copyright, piracy, unauthorized copying, reverse engineering and other miscellaneous other things shown in the game's loading screen, the guys are badass.;)

That's true. With having the option to run a server locally in order to enable that content, I wouldn't need anything more.

EDIT: Even better. Find in the code what is needed to trigger the Social Club free content to pop, even fix the random events glitches (among the waaaay to many glitches that the game has).

I'm not sure if GTA online source code is really leaked or if I can ever get to see it but from my experience it would be possible to mock a server at least partially in functionality if there is enough client code to reference of what data it send to and expected from a server.
It's possible to legally distribute homebrew server code as long as you write it from ground up and don't participate in running a public online service of it.
That said I'm not expert so don't take my word on it.

wow, I think we are entering a very complex area, to be honest I don't even know if it would be worth the developers, besides the time and difficulty, a 'new' online for gta 5 on PS3 would not just be a few playing, but dozens if not hundreds of thousands of people playing at the same time, and that to handle all these people would need a big server, which would have a very high cost $$$, and even if done anonymously and in a 'legal' way, Rockstar is not like the homebrew developers, they would find a way to take it down one way or another, being dirty or not, just look, for example, what they did with the San Andreas mods before the release of Trilogy ;)

*just a 'reminder', at no point is my aim to criticize or belittle the homebrew developers of the PS scene with my quote to them, by no means do I have great respect and admiration for them, my aim was just to compare because when the theft of their codes don't usually go after the 'thief' or sue him because honestly it's not worth the stress for them.

There is a difference between mods and mocking server for a game. It would be very hard for Rockstar to prove some code is a voliation of their intellectual property just because it listen on the same port and transfer same/similar datagram on wire.

I took interest in this mostly like OP as I want to write a mock server of limited functionality and run it in local network and I don't care if anyone run public service of it or not. That said I have yet to see any real code to decide if it's possible or in my range of capability.

hmmm, I understand what you mean, I hope your project is right, really, but I think keeping it publicly would be expensive, but it's a great project to play with friends for example.

hey, did you find a way to get a social club content? I installed collector's edition pkg but still missing that few items from social club

Not at the moment. And no edition includes the Social Club content.
It's tied to a game save that was saved with the profile connected to a social club so the one way is to use someone's save. I believe it's possible to get this as some sort of package installer but I just don't know how or it could be that this unlocks aren't even in game files but they were only downloading from Rockstar server

A game save could be a solution, but we need somebody to share it with the scene. After that, I think it's just a matter of unlocking the content as it is already in the game itself or in some update.

I don't recall any download process happening while enabling this exclusive content, but I might be wrong.
