PS3 Hardware Acceleration for RSX GPU in OtherOS++ (PS3 Linux)

Updates about this project can be seen here

In 2018 we have already seen so much progress on the PlayStation 3 with a variety of new exploits and hacks that have opened many new avenues for people to join the homebrew community. However, the community developer's still are not done making new breakthroughs on the platform. One roadblock has remained on the PS3 and that was Hardware Acceleration on the NVIDIA RSX GPU, while we have seen the PS Vita / PSTV get HW Acceleration recently and how its has helped many projects on the platform. the PPC / CELL environment of the PS3 offers a challenging adventure with the architecture that the PS3 is built on, that sadly not many have been able to undertake and solve over the years, however that may of just changed.......

Developer RenéRebe has made some great progress on the PS3 in OtherOS++ (PS3 Linux), He produced a video on YouTube detailing the technical side of this breakthrough for PS3 Linux (OtherOS++) that Hopefully (my personal hope) can benefit GameOS one day as well so that we can improve the overall homebrew landscape as well like perhaps finally the inclusion of an N64 emulator(?) or Improved 3d emulation in general, we know the hardware (if emu contains a PPC port) can do it, point to the internal emulators of PS2 / PSP / PS1 emulation to gauge the capabilities of emulation on the HW.

  • PS3/Linux NVidia RSX HW Acceleration

My summary of three nights of debugging to get PS3/Linux hardware accelerated X working again. It is finally up and running; in OtherOS++ with full access to the NVdia RSX GPU

Update: Also the developer posted this video a few days prior to the one above

Running PS3 PPC64 Linux in GameOS w/ FULL ACCESS RIGHTS!
The first steps on the way to make PS3 Linux great again, and run it with full GameOS rights!

he stated in the comments he will "be back to make ps3/rsx even greater again" as soon as he gets 2k subscribers. challenge accepted?!

I have an update from Rene R from his youtube channel. I won't be asking him anymore questions on updates as he's a very busy guy and will probably peev him off. Anyway here's the response:-

As I said before I wanted to diversify my content to have some initial content library for people to find my new channel. Therefore I did not want to make many more PS3 videos in a row. I also have a day job running https://ExactCODE.com, so I can not hack and record videos all day long ;-) It is mostly a time and money constraint on how much time I can spend on this. That being said, I will soon (like next month) continue, and for those of you who would rather see me more of this open source coding and hacking, I opened a Patreon to hopefully allow me spending more time on this, too: https://www.patreon.com/renerebe

Everytime i take a look at the videos at his channel i see that images of the SGI octane that looks like a PS3 fat and i think "omg we have some new videos for PS3", but is not that :'(

Close to 2000 suscribers though, maybe for end of summer :)

So we have a confirmation that he is still interested in the PS3, great :)

The mention to "autum" in that message makes me think in how he plans to do the development
-contra: autum are 3 months, so i guess we should not expect any release for some weeks/months
-pro: if he is giving himself that long period of development i hope it means he is taking this seriouslly, so is great... anyway i never expected to have a release made in a couple of days, specially if he is going to build a full T2 operative system with it (that is also great, and he did mention his interest in it too)
