PS2 Has anyone seen a modchip like this before? (Pro-7 CG-768B)

Hi everyone,

While browsing a second-hand shopping app, I came across this PS2 modchip. I searched online but couldn't find anything similar. Could it be a Chinese-made copy?

I wonder if anyone has encountered something like this before? Why are there two identical chips?

I have not.... I would be tempted to say that the 2 fpga thing is....either for better sales alone and 1 is a dummy...

Still usually these things are a bad DMS3/4 clone
I don't think so. The circuit paths to the solder points are visible on both FPGAs. Adding extra FPGAs would increase the cost. However, I'm sure it's a poorly copied chip. :smile new:

Older matrix chips also have twin FPGAs.

I'm currently archiving information about modchips, including original installations, firmwares, applications, etc. Would you be interested?

I assume others have noted this correctly already.
All I can say is "7" seems to be common in clone modchips. I recently obtained a Hong Kong 90006 PS2 Slim I wanted to mechapwn, but instead found a "Super-7 e17" modchip inside it when I went in to change the internal clock/bios battery.

This elusive chip was bit more troublesome as I learned it was extremely simple chip that needed manual reset punching operation depending on what type of media you want your PS2 to boot. Namely that all PS1/PS2 CD boots should be done by pressing reset twice after inserting the CD. This one has just one chip on the PCB though. I would assume this Pro-7 chip is a clone of more advanced chip with the flash memory and two chips, though it could be just made look more advanced than it is and it is within "Super-7" simple chip family. Though, my leading assumption is that "-7" is just a common thing in clone chips and somewhat popular in Asia markets like Hong Kong or Taiwan. My Super-7 is likely a clone of something else and this Pro-7 is a clone of a Matrix or something else. You would need to go talk to old Hong Kong veterans or something who could know more about these chips.
