PS3 HDMI and LAN port replacement

Hi all,

I acquired a PS3 which needed both HDMI and LAN port replacement. This is not exactly a tutorial video but I explain the process in full so hopefully it helps somebody.

Feedback is always welcome!

Buy Microfiber cloth for cleaning and non scratching detailing brush for agitating dust.

Paper towel will scratch plastic and metal like ps3 aluminium shielding in no time. Also regular brushes. Even soft tissues will scratch both. Personal experience.

In video you can see scratch marks on power button panel that corresponds to cleaning patter. Can be fixed by polishing, could idea for the next adventure :D.

My opinion is not to delid nor replace already fine thermal pads.

Cool video.

Thanks, appreciated! Yes, paper towel is not great on plastic, you are right. That said, that case is broken and I know Tim (Timbo here) will replace it and/or paint it white so it was really just to give it a rough clean.

Oh, I thought de-lidding was a must! But I see your point as it will inevitably apply stress on components.

Thanks for the feedback!

Hi Tony, great video. Mimi is absolutely correct, you only de-lid if its required. So looking at your video the thermal paste was still wet! This means it's likely to only require a good clean and a repaste on the IHS. I will of course do a syscon read and use PS3toolset to determine the total power on time. If this is.low, along with the evidence of wet thermal paste, I would not perform a delid.
