PS3 [Help] Can't update to 4.90.1 (HFW)

Condor

Forum Noob
I'm just going to give you guys all the information I can, if you need anything else just let me know.

Details

The system is currently on 4.89 with HEN installed, I followed @Coro and MrMario2011 guide for how to install the new HFW step by step, everything goes well until at exactly 69% the installing process stops and gives the error:

0x8002F997 Error occurred while checking update data; file may be corrupted.

I've tried this and formated my USB (FAT32) multiple times, I dont think that the USB is the problem(or so I would like to believe), what do you say? any advice?.

Tools (currently at my disposal)

I have one USB stick (4GB) but I could buy another if needed, my potato laptop and my PS3 SLIM

Objective of this post

Primary

I just want to be able to use the system to watch movies on Netflix/Prime video and Youtube/Spotify.
I have no problem just deleting it all if this ends up with no solution, but i would need some help with that since i have no idea on how to do it. .

Secondary
It would be really nice to be able to use HEN, but then we are back to how to solve the error, and would also need help with that.

I'm quite new to this, followed a couple tutorials on how to install HFW and HEN a couple of years ago and ended up here, any kind of advice/help is welcome. Thank you in advance.

Try installing it from recovery mode.
Please note that you must have a genuine OEM PS3 controller - Knockoffs often don't work in recovery mode; PS4 and PS5 controllers never do. Also make sure you have a compatible USB cable since Bluetooth doesn't work in recovery mode either.

check md5 of the pup file or download it again.

sometimes people download the zip file and rename it from .zip to .pup because they are unfamilier with zip files. if you have never used zip file before, google how to use them. :)

recovery mode may still give error, but the number may be different.

@NiQ i have had good luck buying non-oem controllers. i believe that the likelyhood of sony suing goes down a little more every day, so maybe in a few years most new controllers will work in recovery. maybe we should start a compatability list...

I'm not sure if Sony can even sue, since most patents would've expired by now.

Hello there! I just finished trying to install the update through recovery mode but it didnt work, the error code this time was

Update error0x8002F2C5Error with installing Firmware update. The PUP is not recognised as valid update. (Can be generated by pulling the storage device with the PUP when it is still in checking stage. DANGEROUS!). Or when trying to install MinVerCheck.PUP inmediatly after an hdd replacement in PS3 models with a NOR flash

And this is kind of strange because in Spanish it says "Los datos estan dañados" or "The data is damaged"

I did not plug out the USB or anything like that and I used the genuine controller, however the knockoff also worked as I tried installing the update multiple times, what do you think I should do next? any advice? Thank you in advance.

I dont know if this has any influence on the update or anything but as I said before the console language is in Spanish and Im not from the US, could this be affecting the update? Thanks

md5 was matched, downloaded the file multiple times and still cant update, something curious happens tho, after pulling the USB out of the PS3 even my PC cant recognize the USB, could it be that something in the PS3 is damaging the data as its being searched?

What should I do next? Any advice?

Thank you in advance
