PS3 Help make sense of PS3 Jailbreaking

Hello everyone,
I just inherited a Phat PS3 CECHC 04 60GB version, which came with OFW 4.81. This sparked my interest in jailbreaking and using homebrew apps on it. I have read quite a bit and watched numerous tutorials. Still I find myself unable to put everything together. I would like to kindly ask your help in elucidating some dilemmas. I think I am missing some pieces of the puzzle, no matter how much I read.

I managed to install CFW Rebug 4.81, on my own, yet have been unable to dump NAND, IDPS, ACT (they always say FAILED). I have been able to install MultiMan and Rebug Toolbox, to no significant progress.
1. What is better to use to jailbreak my Phat PS3, the PS3xploit v2 or v3? (I have used v2) (Honestly, in the beginning I thought v3 isn't good for my fat; I am still a bit unsure);
2. Is HAN toolbox necessary? It always freezes my PS3 at Launch HAN Installation. If yes, can I install it on a Rebug CFW made with v2?
3. What are the essential programs that I need to use to play my PS2/PSX/PSP and PS3 backups;

I have a few more questions, but these seem to be the most pressings ones for the moment.

Thank you in advance for the help,
Really, I did not expect such a big community, until I checked out.

You are on CFW, so you are jailbroken and wont need to ever do it again, you can just install new CFW from the XMB when you need to. What you have is lots better than HAN (aka PS3Xploit 3.0), so you don't need HAN Toolbox, or v3, or v2 ever again really. You can basically ignore most stuff to do with HAN or PS3 Xploit 1,2,3 etc for now. You want to be looking at custom plugins (sprx) and homebrew pkgs , see brewology for lots of those.

For example, the new HAN file injector releases are not so useful on CFW, as you can just copy files to flash via ftp, everything is way easier with CFW.

All you need to play all those game types is a back up manager like webman mod or multiman or managunz etc. They all have advantages, webman mod you can boot your ISOs from the XMB, with multiman you get a desktop mmOS with filemanager, managunz is better for PS2 games.

Thank you, DeViL303! I have to say, I have never seen a developer that helps people so earnestly. You are a cool guy.
That is some weight off my shoulder to hear that I really don't need any of the other steps. I got pretty confused after installing the CFW.

So, basically I need to install WebMan Mod to run ISO for my backups. Do I still need to use the PKG file format or to activate them (I presume I do)? Also, my PS3 is the one that came with PS2 compatibility, do I still need to use managunz?

Thank you!

You can enable webman from rebug tool box once you enable everything else such as the ps2 emulator and cobra mode on everything.You can also switch to dex mode if you want more controll over your console.

Got it, did that, and WebMan is up and running. I will transfer some ps2 iso backups and see how it goes. Cheers guys!
Cool.

FYI:
PS2 ISOs only run from internal drive = PS2ISO folder
PS3 ISOs will run from internal and external NTFS drives = PS3ISO folder
PS3 folder rips will run from internal and external FAT32 and NTFS drives = GAMES or GAMEZ folder
PS1 rips will run from internal or external FAT32 and NTFS drives = PS1ISO folder
PSP ISOs will only run from internal drive = PSPISO folder

Ok, so I got to test this out. I put a PS2 ISO, copied it via NTFS in Multiman to my internal PS2ISO folder, and now it works.Going to test this out with PS3 and PS1 games, but I think it should work. Thanks DeViL303 and everyone else, you were very helpful. Much appreciated!

One last question. I know now I can use ISO. But what about PKG? Thanks!
For Homebrew packages just install it via Package manager > install package files. Same with demoes. If you have a license because for example you own a PSN game you can install that too.

If you want to go online, check out PSNpatch. its for stealth, to help prevent bans.
