HELP: Sharing SAVES between PS2 Games on PS2 Classics

So, I finished Xenosaga Episode I the other day, which I had installed as a .pkg on XMB. Actually, I have installed all my Xenosaga copies on PS3 as .pkg's, that is Episode II Disks 1&2, and Episode III Disks 1&2.

I was about to start Episode II Disk 1 when it asked me if I had complete data from the previous Episode, so I pressed Yes, but it didn't find anything. I realised that the save data isn't saved in the Virtual Memory Cards but as .VME in each game's folder.

All in all, I wanted to import the save both in the virtual memory card and the individual save of Ep.II-Disk1, but I failed. I managed to decrypt the .VME's to .VMC's but couldn't do more. I couldn't turn .VMC into a .VM2.

I believe that this will also affect the 2nd disk of Episode II. :/

Is there anyone that could help me? That is, to import the save into the virtual memory card and into the individual save of Ep.II-Disk1.

you may be able to just copy and paste the vme into episode 2's folder. iirc, vme files or their vmc files at least, are generic, and their subsequent vme may be interchangeable if using the same klicense (i.e. placeholder). I don't remember if this works or not, because I haven't messed with ps3 stuff in a long time.

Sorry, I wrote that in a hurry, so I didn't clarify. I did try that, but still it didn't recognize it.

I've also searched various guides, even this one on this forum: PS3 - Converting PCSX2 Memory Cards to PS3 and Vice versa. | PSX-Place, but all direct to some Fire Pro Wrestling Save Conversion Kit, which is nowhere to be found!

-EDIT: The link provided in the above post seems to not have the program.-

well, the vmc is just a memory card image. it's been too long, so I don't really remember. the two apps I can think of are memory card rex and mymc, I can't recall which goes with psx and which goes with ps2. I think that's where you go after renaming .vmc to .ps2.

Thanks! Well, I might have found something.... I'll update soon.

sorry, I couldn't be much help. it's just been too long, like many years. I have some tutorials on handling saves, but I think the ps2 is one long, shitty paragraph, assuming you know how it works on the psx. they're kinda similar in a way.

Don't worry! It seems that the program was under my nose all the time. My bad XD

In the end I followed this guide down to the letter (1) Transferring PS2 Save to sequel game (PS2 Classic) : ps3hacks (reddit.com)
What I was doing wrong was that I was just copying the .vme's from the folders using MangaGunz, instead of from the XMB, as my flash drive was NTFS formatted and not recognizable from XMB. I reformatted it to Fat32, copied the folders from XMB, extracted the .psu from the .vme, and turned it into a new .vme for the other game.

Everything is working neatly! :encouragement:

P.S. The next time, I have to be more careful before before opening a thread. Case closed :stupid:

As for converting a .psu to a .psv, I've found this great program: Releases · bucanero/psv-save-converter · GitHub
Just drag & drop the .psu to the .exe

Good to hear that my converter helped. Btw, most of those steps can be done directly on your PS3 using Apollo Save tool.

Apollo should let you:
- decrypt/encrypt .VME files
- convert .psu (and many other PS2 formats) to .PSV

(a complete VME manager could be done at some point, but as I don't play PS2 games on my PS3, I don't really have a compelling need to do it :-p )
