Hi, first time trying CFW on PS3.

Greeting from the East Coast, US!

I'm brand new to the scene, successfully installed Cobra Ferrox CEX on my slim PS3 (was 4.85). Trying out Multiman, Retroarch and seeing what I can do. I'm basically an old school gamer that is going through my backlog of games and this CFW thing is well worth it. I am going to have some questions, I'm sure, moving forward with this... especially about getting online with PSN and DLC for PS3 games and such. I do have PSN Patch 2017.02/B and created a secondary account for PSN just for this CFW PS3.

Not sure if this is the right place, but I'll ask one anyway:

I'm currently logged out cause I don't want to catch a ban on PSN. When starting the game, a message said I need to be logged into PSN to use the DLC... I'm weary of that as I'm not 100% confident yet. My question is should I login to use the DLC or can PSN make it safe for me to do that? What do I need to do? I understand there is always a risk no matter what and nothing is 100% all the time, so if I take advice I understand it's on me if something happens.

Thanks and cheers! I look forward to doing more stuff with this.

As mentioned you can use PSNpatch which can be found HERE.
You can use PSNpatch to disable CFW syscalls. Which will mask any CFW activity before you login to PSN.

Another option would be to use webMAN MODs build in button combo to disable CFW syscalls. Found HERE.
Just install. And when your at XMB, mount your game. Then tap :but tri:+:but r2:. Your ps3 should beep once and a notification will appearing saying that CFW syscalls have been disabled.
You can now login to PSN and start your game.

An extra layer of security that I use, is I dont use my main PSN account with all my game and DLC purchases. Instead I have a "backup" account that I use to play online. That way if I get an account ban, i haven't lost all my PSN content.

But if you get a console ban. Then you would have to purchase a new IDPS and use PSNpatch to change it. Allowing you to go back online with a banned console.

All this ban stuff is pretty unknown. No one 100% knowns the criteria sony uses to apply bans.
So this is the risk you take.

Thanks for the tips, I appreciate it. And yes, I made a secondary account. Actually the PS3 I jailbroke was a backup I bought some years ago and put in a 500 GB HDD. Its been sitting for a few years, so I figured I might as well do something with it.
